GOP finds a new, misguided reason to target federal law enforcement

Unveiling the GOP’s Surprising New Focus on Federal Law Enforcement

Congressional Republicans are determined to push their anti-Biden agenda, even if it means relying on a witness with a credibility problem. Gal Luft, a director at a D.C.-area think tank, has been charged with serious offenses including being an unregistered agent for China and violating U.S. sanctions against Iran. One would think that this would be enough for Republicans to reconsider their strategy, but they remain undeterred. In fact, they still hope to call Luft as a witness in their investigations of President Biden and his son Hunter. House Republicans are dismissing the charges against Luft and instead accusing the Justice Department and the FBI of orchestrating a vast conspiracy. It’s astonishing to see how Republicans are willing to peddle these claims without any evidence. Furthermore, their campaign against the U.S. justice system has become reflexive, with the assumption that any evidence presented by federal prosecutors is politically motivated corruption. This dangerous rhetoric undermines the trust in our justice system and has serious consequences for our democracy.
