Family, Faith, and Politics: A Journey to the Left
This’ll be a short one. I just got off the phone with my sister, after a long conversation about family, religion, and politics. While she’s not a super fan of Kamala Harris, she told me she will not vote for Donald Trump.
The Debate That Changed Everything
The straw that broke the camel’s back was the debate: my sister says Harris beat the ever-loving snot out of Trump, and he came away looking like a buffoon and a liar.
Cracks in Conservative Identity
The cracks in her conservative identity had been growing for quite some time:
- Jan. 6th: The events of January 6th made her very angry.
- Constant Lies: The endless stream of lies wore her out.
- J.D. Vance: She finds J.D. Vance disgusting.
A Shift Towards Liberal Beliefs
Today I got her to realize she has a lot more beliefs in common with liberals than conservatives. I think—just maybe—I’ll get her to vote for Harris/Walz.
Faith and Politics
She is a person of faith who is also disgusted with churches aligning themselves with hate and deceit. I turned her on to Rev. Ed Trevors from out of Nova Scotia, and maybe his discussions will help her see that faith and a liberal social perspective are not incompatible. Fingers crossed. Ed, you got this.
