MAGAverse Has Gone to the Dogs with Attack on Walz and His Black Lab Scout That Totally Backfired

Tim Walz and His Dog Scout: Debunking the MAGA Conspiracy

This time, MAGA World thought they had really caught Democratic vice presidential candidate Tim Walz in a big lie about his dog. But it turned out that MAGA cultists just ended up stepping in some dog poo with another quickly debunked conspiracy theory.

MAGA Attacks on Tim Walz

Trump and his MAGA cultists have already gone after the Minnesota governor about his military record, his relationship with his son Gus, and whether he could be called the coach of a state championship high school football team (he was the defensive coordinator).

The Dog Scandal

This time, the scandal involved Walz’s dog Scout, the black labrador retriever mix who’s starred in many videos posted by Walz.

Like this one. Yes JD, Walz also has a cat named Afton and his pets did end up playing around on the couch on Christmas.

Accusations Fly

On Monday, Dustin Grage, a columnist at the right-wing website Town Hall, posted two screenshots to X, formerly Twitter, showing Walz posing with two different dogs on Oct. 19, 2022. One photo showed Walz with Scout; the other showed Walz petting a brown-and-white dog with the caption: “Couldn’t think of a better way to spend a beautiful fall day than at the dog park. I know Scout enjoyed it.”

MAGAverse Goes Wild

Now we all know how harmful a dog story can be to a potential vice presidential pick. After all, Donald Trump got stuck with JD Vance after South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem doomed her chances of being his running mate by recounting how she killed her wirehair pointer puppy Cricket in a gravel pit.

So the MAGAverse went wild accusing Walz of having some kind of a dog problem that he had to lie about it. How could Walz have two dogs named Scout?

That MAGA influencer known as Catturd got carried away:

Missouri GOP Sen. Eric Schmitt reposted Grage’s X post with the caption: “Why would Tim Walz do this? It’s Creepy and Weird.”

Former Fox News host Kimberly Guilfoyle, Donald Trump Jr.’s fiance, wrote on X : “Wait so Walz is even lying about his dog? Ruff stuff,”

Truth Revealed

But just when it looked like MAGA would have to call on Scooby and the gang to uncover this mystery, other X users came to the rescue by doing their own research and found a video that Walz posted on Instagram on October 19, 2022.

So on Tuesday, posts like this popped up on X. A group known as Wu Tang is for the Children showed the video and wrote:

And indeed, as Walz wrote that day, Scout clearly enjoyed playing with the other dog (name unknown).

The Real Story of Scout

Mystery solved! It turns out that Tim Walz not only loves his own dog Scout, but is nice to other dogs he ran across at the dog park.

What’s more, there is a totally charming story about how Scout became a member of the Walz family. On Sept. 5, 2019, Walz issued a press release introducing Minnesotans to the state’s new first dog: Scout.

Today, Governor Tim Walz, and his son Gus, introduced Minnesotans to the newest member of their family: Scout, a three-month-old Black Lab Mix. When Governor Walz announced his campaign in March of 2017, he and his wife, Gwen, promised their son Gus that the family would adopt a dog if Walz won the election. The moment the election was called, Gus famously exclaimed, “I get a dog!” and he has been reminding his parents of that promise ever since.

Minnesotans have been without a First Dog since the Governor took office in January. After months of searching, Governor Walz, the First Lady, and Gus adopted Scout over Labor Day Weekend from Midwest Animal Rescue & Services. Scout comes to the Minnesota Governor’s Residence after he was discovered in a box, abandoned in Oklahoma. Scout is adjusting to his new home in St. Paul and having fun exploring the historic Governor’s Residence. While the Walz family cat, Afton, is not happy to share the spotlight, the Walz family is thrilled they were able to rescue Scout and give him a new home in Minnesota.

“Politicians make a lot of promises on the campaign trail, but none bigger than one I made to my kids. I’m excited to announce that Minnesota has a new First Dog and more importantly, I fulfilled my commitment to get my son a dog if I was elected Governor,” said Governor Tim Walz. “I’m proud that Minnesota’s First Dog is a rescue dog, and I hope Scout—who has been a very good boy—serves as reminder for Minnesotans that there are a lot of pups waiting to be adopted.”
