Michigan Judge Suspended for Racist and Homophobic Remarks
Judge Kathleen Ryan Removed from Post
Oakland County probate judge Kathleen Ryan has been removed from her position after a court administrator recorded a phone call where she made homophobic and racist comments. She described herself as:
“I’m not systemically racist. I’m a new racist.”
This statement is confusing, but it seems to mean that she admits to being a racist.
Family of Judges
Judge Ryan is “only” a probate judge, but she comes from a family of judges. It is likely she had ambitions for higher office. However, given her recent actions, this seems unlikely now.
