Alejandro Mayorkas Warns of Threats to Voting
The Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security, Alejandro Mayorkas, has raised concerns about threats to the upcoming presidential election. He says that “lone offenders” could try to disrupt voting and target polling places and workers.
What Are Lone Offenders?
Mayorkas explained that after 9/11, the biggest terrorism threat was from foreign terrorist networks. But now, the main threat comes from individuals acting alone. These people are called “lone offenders.”
Why Are They Dangerous?
These lone offenders have been radicalized, which means they have adopted extreme beliefs. These beliefs often involve hate, anti-government ideas, conspiracy theories, or personal grudges. Many of these ideologies are linked to right-wing extremists.
Anywhere Can Be a Target
Mayorkas emphasized that in today’s world, any place can be a target at any time. This makes it very important to stay alert and protect our voting process.
