Belle’s Interesting Take on the CNN Interview…

Beau of the Fifth Column Steps Down: Meet Belle

I’m sure many of you know that Beau of the Fifth Column has stepped down from his channel. The channel is still going strong with the new presenter, Belle.

Belle’s New Style

I watched her first couple of videos and felt that she needed to get more comfortable in front of the camera. She is definitely getting better at that aspect. Her videos tend to be shorter and much more directly liberal. Beau was much more subtle and snarky. I do think that she is growing into the gig.

Interesting Take on CNN Interview

In one of her recent videos, Belle had an interesting take on the recent CNN interview with Harris and Walz. She starts by saying that many people wrote in to say the interview was boring. Her point is that:

  • Policy is boring: Important things are not always exciting.
  • Stability over drama: You don’t want the President to be saying and doing outrageous stuff.

Running for President is Like a Job Interview

Belle then goes on to compare running for president to a job interview. Here are some of her points:

  • Have you had much success in job interviews by telling them that the company is horrible and the only way it can be fixed is hiring you?
  • Do you get hired by insulting other people in the company?
  • Or implying that the highest-ranking woman in the company slept her way into the position?
  • Would you hire someone who you already fired once for poor performance? What if their friends showed up after you fired this person and trashed your office?

Life After Trump

Her final point is that there are a lot of people who will get bored with politics once Trump is finally gone. What we have gotten used to is not normal.

Valuable Insights Continue

She makes some very good points, and I think the channel will continue to have valuable insights.

Personal Experience

Also, I want to make the point that I (and many of you) probably have encountered people who have been hired through bluster and arrogance. In my situation in academia, the administrators above the faculty’s heads often seem to be impressed by BS. On more than one occasion they have ignored the hire recommendation of the faculty personnel committee and hired an idiot. So her analogy unfortunately isn’t as clear cut as we all wish it were. Still, it’s not a bad talking point to try on an undecided voter.
