We need to punish the GOP for embracing Trump’s racist attacks on a black congressman. Here’s how

Donald Trump’s favorite pastime these days: spewing racist rage at members of Congress who not at all coincidentally are people of color. Just a couple of weeks ago, Trump barked that four Democratic women should “go back” to the “countries” they “came” from; this past weekend, he went on a two-day rampage spewing hatred toward Maryland Rep. Elijah Cummings, churning up classic racist tropes to call the congressman’s majority-black, Baltimore-based district “a disgusting, rat and rodent-infested mess.”

Last time, Republicans endorsed Trump’s bigotry by voting en masse against a Democratic resolution condemning his attacks. This time, it’s more of the same, as GOP leaders are once again defending Trump’s racism. Florida Sen. Rick Scott, for instance, said Trump was in the right because Cummings’ criticisms of Border Patrol agents “reminds me of what happened to soldiers who came back from Vietnam.”

Another Floridian, Rep. Matt Gaetz, once more showed why he’s sycophant-in-chief, showing up on Nazi-phile Seb Gorka’s radio show to declare that Trump “does it to people who are of all ethnic backgrounds and ethnicities,” adding, “This is actually how Trump is going to get a very large part of the black vote, because he’s gonna show black Americans how they have been let through these typical leftist policies.”

Once upon a time, Republicans would pretend to be embarrassed by racism within their own ranks. Now they’re all for it, openly, and they even think it will be an electoral boon.

But there is, in fact, a price to pay for racism, and here’s how we make the GOP pay it.  You can donate immediately to ActBlue’s nominee funds to flip each of these seats blue; all money will be held in escrow until each state’s primary, then transferred to the winner in one fell swoop.

Act Blue has stooped to a new low by using the Repugnant Republican’s embracing Trumps disparagements of Elijah Cummings as a excuse to fund-raise. It seems that any excuse is fair game.
