Trumpite Suggests Covid-19 Version of ‘Chicken Pox Parties’ So Work Force Can Return

This is one for the books. This came out of The Federalist, a right-wing blog that started out promulgating the coronavirus-as-hoax conspiracy theory, with headlines like, “Inaccurate Virus Models Are Panicking Officials Into Ill-Advised Lockdowns,” and comments like, “a handful of Democratic activists created alarming, but bogus data sets to scare local and state officials into making rash, economy-killing mandates.” Now, the medical geniuses and social engineers on this blog have come up with a solution to get workers back on the job and they call it “thinking outside the box.” Simply, they propose that Controlled Voluntary Infection is the way to go. Here’s a description of what that looks like. The Federalist:

Before vaccinations for childhood diseases such as chickenpox and German measles were developed, families would hold chickenpox or German measles “parties” when one child contracted the disease. All the neighborhood children were invited to play with the infected child with the understanding that they would probably become infected as a result. The entire community would get the disease out of the way in one little local epidemic. Since many childhood diseases are far more severe if contracted as an adult, voluntary infection minimized the potential for future adverse consequences.

Now I grew up in a suburb of Denver and was never invited to a chicken pox party, nor did I ever hear of them existing until this very moment in time.

CVI involves allowing people at low risk for severe complications to deliberately contract COVID-19 in a socially and medically responsible way so they become immune to the disease. People who are immune cannot pass on the disease to others.

If CVI were to become widespread and successful, it could be a powerful tool for both suppressing the Wuhan coronavirus and saving the economy. It could reduce the danger of passing COVID-19 to vulnerable populations, drastically reduce the amount of social isolation needed, reopen businesses, and even help achieve the level of “herd immunity” needed to stop the spread of the disease within the population.

Herd immunity, of course, is the phenomenon whereby contagious infections can no longer spread if a large enough percentage of the population is immune to the disease, and CVI is a means to achieve it. Many over the age of 60 might remember an interesting historical precedent for CVI: chickenpox parties.

The idea seems to be that if you get deliberately exposed to chickenpox, you will get a mild form of it and everything will be just fine. Unfortunately, the coronavirus is too new and not enough is known about it, therefore conflating chickenpox and COVID-19 seems to me to be the nth degree of wingnutteria. It sounds like a suicide pact, almost, and an experimental one at that. Totally nuts. Nevertheless, you may hear more along these lines. Texas Governor Dan Patrick was on Fox News the other night and he said that plenty of seniors would be willing to die if it would preserve the economy for their grandchildren — including him.

“No one reached out to me and said, as a senior citizen, are you willing to take a chance on your survival in exchange for keeping the America that all America loves for your children and grandchildren? And if that’s the exchange, I’m all in.

Good, we’ve got a volunteer for the COVID-19 party, let’s send Dan Patrick to see how and if it works out. Be sure to tell us what you want on your tombstone, Dan.

The corporate powers that be want to get the engines of commerce rolling and if they run over some bodies while doing it, too bad. Frankly, I don’t know of any peers of mine willing to die so that some kid’s 401K can live, but perhaps I run in jaded circles.

Remember that today there are still people who play Russian roulette……………..
with a semi-automatic pistol.
While conservatives typically don’t believe in Darwin, they do embrace social Darwinism whereby the poor and the vulnerable should die, and do so quickly, to reduce the surplus population.
P.S. That’s “wingnutterrhea”, if you please.

First they wanted to send the elderly to an early grave, not it’s the kids. ( If they want a real problem, screw with the kids and see what happens). Who’s next. When does this country get some balls and say enough is enough.

Dan Patrick can be the clown at the children’s parties with the anti-vaxxer crowd.
