So here’s one of Donald Trump’s top “spiritual advisers” defending Trump’s comments about bringing “fire and fury” to North Korea as morally signed-off on by God Himself.

“When it comes to how we should deal with evildoers, the Bible, in the book of Romans, is very clear: God has endowed rulers full power to use whatever means necessary — including war — to stop evil,” [Texas megachurch pastor Robert Jeffress] said. “In the case of North Korea, God has given Trump authority to take out Kim Jong Un.” […]

He said that many pacifist Christians will cite Romans 12, which says, “Do not repay evil for evil,” but Jeffress says that the passage is referring to Christians, not to the government.

“A Christian writer asked me, ‘Don’t you want the president to embody the Sermon on the Mount?’ ” he said, referring to Jesus’s sermon. “I said absolutely not.”

Aside from being another wee snippet into the mind of our own American Taliban—it’s never a good sign when any group claims that their current or future war is justified because The One True God is on their side and not yours—this is only significant because if Donald Trump (sigh) decides he really did want to drop a preemptive nuclear strike (shudder) on North Korea, a quick conference with his “spiritual adviser” would result in him being told that God would be just fine with that.

Which, if that turned out to be the one last conversation that tilted his decision in one way or another, would be a hell of a thing.
