“The Farmers are going to be so happy when they see what we are doing for Ethanol,” Trump tweeted. “It will be a giant package, get ready!”
News flash: Farmers aren’t happy. The Iowa Corn Farmers Association skewered Trump in a statement, saying, “President Trump’s promises on the future of ethanol were broken with the approval of 31 unjustified refinery waivers as it kills the demand for corn, and Iowa corn farmers are fed up.”
Corn farmer Vic Miller echoed the frustration. “Agriculture is in one hell of a bad situation right now. The government put us in this situation, and they need to help us get out of it,” he said in the statement. “[Trump] made promises to American farmers and now it’s time for him to keep them.”
But if there really is a “giant package” coming for corn farmers, American taxpayers will be on the hook for it. Trump has already subsidized farmers to the tune of $28 billion in order to buy their votes despite his disastrous trade war with China. And by the way, Trump’s administration has done such an abysmal job distributing that funding that it has cost an extra $1 million in interest for late bailout payments.
Can’t wait to see the “giant package” Trump has in store for corn farmers in order to mollify farm country yet again.
