Bad News for Trump is Good News for America

Bad news for Trump #1: Trump Can’t Escape the States:  The president cannot pardon people for state crimes. Even if Trump pardons, say, his son-in-law Jared Kushner, a state prosecutor can bring charges under state law anytime. Similarly, Trump can be prosecuted under state law.

This is bad news for him (and good for us) because *a lot* of states are building cases against him and some of his family members.

Bad News for Trump#2: Congress Reaches Deal on Russia Sanctions

the deal undermined Trump’s desire to give Russia whatever they wanted and was thus a blow to him (and good news for us).

Bad News for Trump #3: Trump Angrily Lashes Out at Republicans for Failing to “Protect Their President”

“It’s very sad that Republicans, even some that were carried over the line on my back, do very little to protect their President.” Tweeted our president man-baby.

Which… of course he did.  Because everything is all about him and what everyone should be doing for him.

Also… Yes please.  In addition to taking on the media, the judicial branch, and the free press… please also take on your own party.  That is not only super dumb, but would be super great for the millions and millions of us just waiting for them to turn on you.

Bad News for Trump#4: Another lawsuit seeks Trump’s tax returns

President Donald Trump is facing a new legal demand for his tax returns in a lawsuit from protesters who say they were roughed up at Trump’s instigation at a campaign rally last year.

Lawyers for the demonstrators recently made a formal request for the tax returns as part of the discovery process in a suit over altercations at a Trump campaign event in Louisville, Kentucky, in March 2016.

“We want to know where his money is going and where it’s coming from,” said Greg Belzley, an attorney for the protesters. “What are his connections with the hate groups that regularly attended his rallies? What security did he have? Did they make any arrangements? Does he have the money to pay a jury verdict in this case?”

Bad News for Trump #5: FBI investigation continues into ‘odd’ computer link between Russian bank and Trump Organization

Federal investigators and computer scientists continue to examine whether there was a computer server connection between the Trump Organization and a Russian bank, sources close to the investigation tell CNN.

Questions about the possible connection were widely dismissed four months ago. But the FBI’s investigation remains open, the sources said, and is in the hands of the FBI’s counterintelligence team — the same one looking into Russia’s suspected interference in the 2016 election.

Bad News for Republicans is Good News for America

Bad News for Republicans #1:Republicans are in full control of government — but losing control of their party

Six months after seizing complete control of the federal government, the Republican Party stands divided as ever — plunged into a messy war among its factions that has escalated in recent weeks to crisis levels.

Frustrated lawmakers are increasingly sounding off at a White House awash in turmoil and struggling to accomplish its legislative goals. President Trump is scolding Republican senators over health care and even threatening electoral retribution. Congressional leaders are losing the confidence of their rank and file. And some major GOP donors are considering using their wealth to try to force out recalcitrant incumbents.

Bad News for Republicans #1: Senate healthcare bill appears headed for failure

Senate Republicans plan to vote this week on revised healthcare reform legislation, but a number of serious problems mean that the chances of getting that bill passed are slim to none.

The latest wallop of bad news for Republicans came Friday when the Senate parliamentarian announced that key provisions of the revised bill would not pass muster under the special budgetary rules that Republicans are using to pass the legislation with a simple majority instead of 60 votes.

There is no indication yet from Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.), who was diagnosed last week with brain cancer, that he will be back in Washington in time for a vote — which means that GOP leaders may be starting one vote short.

Sen. Susan Collins (R-Maine), who has already announced her opposition to the Senate healthcare bill, on Sunday criticized what she called a confusing and disjointed process.

Keep those calls coming everyone.  This is a major major major possible victory for us.  We are so close!!!

Good News for the Resistance is good news for America

Good News for the Resistance #1:The Resistance Is Already Planning for When Trump Fires Mueller

Good News for the Resistance #2: Dismayed by President Trump’s views on climate science and other research issues, scientists are storming the campaign trail.

Dismayed by President Donald Trump’s perceived hostility to climate science and other areas of research, a surge of scientists is entering the public arena and running for political office for the first time.

They represent an evolving brand of Democrat that has been gaining steam for months. What began with rogue Twitter accounts and protest marches has graduated into candidacies in House races in places as varied as California, Texas, Pennsylvania and New York.

Good News for the Resistance #3: Arnie lends some muscle to the campaign against gerrymandering

Mr Schwarzenegger is in the thick of a nationwide campaign against gerrymandering—when parties draw electoral districts to give their side an unfair advantage. The cause has momentum behind it. There are campaigns to put redistricting reform on the ballot in Michigan, Missouri and Ohio, and lawsuits are in progress from North Carolina to Maryland

Good News for the Resistance #4: Since Trump’s Election, Increased Attention to Politics – Especially Among Women

Following an election that had one of the largest gender gaps in history, women are more likely than men to say they are paying increased attention to politics.

And while far more Democrats than Republicans say they have attended a political event, rally or protest since the election, Democratic women – especially younger women and those with postgraduate degrees – are among the most likely to have participated in such a political gathering

In other news:

Jeb Bush calls out Republicans silent on Trump’s Russia probe

If your opponent does things that you, your head explodes on, if Barack Obama did something as it’s related to Russia, you say ‘this is outrageous,’ all this stuff, then when your guy does the same thing, have the same passion to be critical,” Bush said.

Ruth Bader Ginsburg optimistic ‘over the long haul’ for US

Y’all, once again I agree with RBG 🙂  That is always a good feeling

Have a great week everyone.  Whatever else it will be, I suspect it will be eventful.
