If you thought Donald Trump’s immigration agenda in the first four years was horrific, get ready for it to be an absolute nightmare if he wins reelection. Senior Trump aide and clear white supremacist Stephen Miller has been busily brainstorming ways to make things even worse for immigrants already in the U.S. while further restricting the flow of any more entrants to the country.
Miller told NBC News Trump’s immigration policy for the next four years would include four prongs: “limiting asylum grants, punishing and outlawing so-called sanctuary cities, expanding the so-called travel ban with tougher screening for visa applicants and slapping new limits on work visas.”
Miller’s main priority is to raise more barriers to immigration by “enhancing the standard of entry,” as he put it. The agenda items include a mix of legislative and executive actions, but let’s be real—Trump is never going to get Miller’s racist dream bills through a Democratically controlled House, and virtually nobody other than Trump thinks Republicans have even a smidge of hope of retaking control of the lower chamber.
That’s why Miller quickly resorted to a bunch of euphemisms to convey that Trump will swiftly take unilateral executive action to implement as much of Miller’s sick agenda as possible.
“In many cases, fixing these problems and restoring some semblance of sanity to our immigration programs does involve regulatory reform,” Miller said. “Congress has delegated a lot of authority. … And that underscores the depth of the choice facing the American people.”
For some reason, Miller, who’s a top adviser to both the White House and Trump’s campaign, insisted that he was solely talking in his capacity as a campaign aide. We can only take that to mean that Miller believes these racist immigration policies are a real boost to Trump’s reelection bid.
But don’t worry, if Trump wins, Miller vowed to stay on at the White House to help enact the most racist, xenophobic agenda possible.
Because Trump’s “best people” are by default the worst of the worst.
