This story is still breaking and developing. MSNBC is reporting that the State Department Inspector General has contacted the House committees investigating impeaching President Donald Trump, asking to speak with them. We currently have an active impeachment investigation mostly due to the fact that the Intelligence Inspector General reached out to the House and Senate Intelligence committees, to advise them that he had a valid and urgent whistle blower complaint that he was being prevented from presenting to them. Let’s be clear here, Inspector Generals don’t drop in on congressional committees whose jurisdiction they are under just to do a time and temperature check. There are well established procedures for how, when, and why Inspector Generals contact congressional committees. And this is not one of the ways on the normal contact tree between the two. We already know that Secretary of State Mike Pompeo has made it clear that he will actively obstruct the congressional committees from obtaining any of the documents they have requested, and will obstruct State Department employees from testifying or giving depositions. What if another whistle blower, this one in the State Department, has come forward to the State Department IG, who has investigated it and found it as qualifying for congress to be notified, only to be stymied by Pompeo? Full Disclosure. This may end up being absolutely nothing, but it sure doesn’t feel that way. And there is nobody more close mouthed than the intelligence community. If you ask them, “How ya doing?”, they respond “What the hell do you care?” IF the salient portions of the whistle blower complaint in a secretive society like the intelligence community couldn’t be stopped from leaking within a week of the complaint being disclosed, what do you think that the chances are that any complaint before the State Department IG will do any better? Don’t touch that dial. *Update* Rachel Maddow on MSNBC is reporting that the State Department Inspector General notified several committees that he needs to speak to them tomorrow to show them some important State Department documents dealing with US dealings with Ukraine. The documents were provided by a junior deputy legal advosor in the State Department. The Inspector General wih=ll be briefing 4 different comittees in the House and Senate tomorrow. Sometimes people in Washington get it plain wrong!
If conservatives support police killing citizens without justification, climate denial, fact denial, science denial, racist and misogynistic behavior, or a litany of other absurd points of view about numerous important issues, we call them out.
