This is some wonderful poetic justice. Former Ambassador Marie Yovanovich was harassed and run out of her position and now she’s going to publish a tell-all, set to drop in the Spring of 2021 — a time when, with any luck, we will be looking at Donald Trump in the rear view mirror. Associated Press: Houghton Mifflin Harcourt confirmed Friday to The Associated Press that it had acquired Yovanovitch’s planned memoir, currently untitled. According to the publisher, the book will trace her long career, from Mogadishu, Somalia, to Kyiv and “finally back to Washington, D.C. — where, to her dismay, she found a political system beset by many of the same challenges she had spent her career combating overseas.” “Yovanovitch’s book will deliver pointed reflections on the issues confronting America today, and thoughts on how we can shore up our democracy,” Houghton Mifflin Harcourt said in an announcement. Financial terms were not disclosed, but two people familiar with the deal told the AP that the agreement was worth seven figures, even though the book is not expected until Spring 2021, months after this fall’s election. They were not authorized to discuss negotiations and spoke on condition of anonymity to discuss financial terms. Yovanovitch was represented by the Javelin literary agency, where other clients include former FBI Director James Comey and former national security adviser John Bolton. “Ambassador Yovanovitch has had a 30-year career of public service in many locations, with many lessons to be drawn. This is about much more than just the recent controversy,” said Houghton Mifflin Senior Vice President and Publisher Bruce Nichols, in response to a question about why her book wasn’t coming out this year. I hope Yovanovich writes a best seller. She does have a unique perspective on what it’s like to serve under sane administrations and then under Trump. This could be a very valuable perspective.
Marie Yovanovich’s departure from the State Department was done without fanfare, quietly and with dignity, like the woman herself. It’s a loss to our government that a top notch career diplomat like this has stepped down, but no one can blame her for this decision after the vile ordeal of the Ukraine scandal and being in Giuliani’s and Trump’s cross-hairs. CNN: Former US Ambassador to Ukraine Marie “Masha” Yovanovitch — a highly respected career diplomat who unwittingly became one of the central figures in the impeachment drama — has retired from the State Department. Yovanovitch leaves after more than three decades in the foreign service. She was described as “someone who has never been hungry for the spotlight,” by one former State Department official. – It is unclear when exactly Yovanovitch retired, but the official said it was sometime in the last two weeks. She had most recently been serving as a senior State Department fellow at Georgetown University. – She was removed from her post as the US ambassador in Kiev in May 2019 after a targeted campaign against her led by allies of President Donald Trump. I can only imagine Ambassador Yovanovich’s reaction when she learned that the Moron in Chief was bleating “She’s bad news,” and “I have the right to hire and fire my own ambassadors, I think that’s important,” when her own performance since she was appointed during the Bush administration had been beyond reproach. But Trump doesn’t review the facts, he’s just out for a testosterone power blast and a photo op on any given day. Can you imagine how these diplomats must feel, knowing that there’s a lunatic in charge and that at any moment, given the right circumstances, they can become embroiled in a Trumpian conspiracy theory and find decades of sterling work go up in smoke, in the time it takes to say “emails?” – While I certainly respect the ambassador’s decision and understand it, nevertheless I see it as tragic. She had so much more to give to the State Department. How many more seasoned professionals are we going to lose to the buffoonery and circus of the current administration? Diplomats and ambassadors are not fungible goods, not by a long shot. We just lost one of the best, as the Trump threshing machine keeps moving through our government, destroying careers and demolishing institutions.

Sometimes people in Washington get it plain wrong!
If conservatives support police killing citizens without justification, climate denial, fact denial, science denial, racist and misogynistic behavior, or a litany of other absurd points of view about numerous important issues, we call them out.
