This Is America, “Here, Right Matters,” Vindman Captures the Moment

We have witnessed the most moving and symbolic moment in the impeachment hearings to this point. Lt. Colonel Vindman was questioned about his decision to take action opposing “the most powerful man in the world,” and whether Vindman knew he took a risk in doing so. Asked why he believed he needed to do it, and why it would be okay, Lt. Col. Vindman said because this is America, and “here, [being] right matters.” He did what was “right,” knowing that as an American officer, his country demanded no less, and would support him, no matter who he opposed. This is what impeachment is about. It is about the rule of law, it is about being “right.” We are reaffirming that right and wrong still matters in the age of Trump. Being legally and morally “right” is all one needs when going up against the most powerful man in the world, a man obsessed with defeating his “enemies,” even enemies who wear the uniform of the United States of America. This was the moment that the impeachment inquiry needed. It was the second time in the impeachment process that the crowd erupting in applause. People are yearning to see real bravery, real patriotism, and real allegiance to what is “right.” Republicans keep digging a hole in the name of one man, willing to do anything, no matter how wrong, in furtherance of one man. The contrast couldn’t be more striking. The news coming out of this morning’s hearing? Lt. Colonel Vindman took action against something he saw that was wrong, and did what he believed to be “right” because it was his duty. The American people, through Congress, will back him up on it. **** Peace, y’all, and good job, Lt. Colonel Vindman Jason jmiciak@yahoo.com and on Twitter @MiciakZoom
