“Warmest condolences” is now part of the Trump lexicon of tone deaf and idiotic statements made at a time of crisis — although he’ll have to go long and hard to top “big water.” Hollow platitudes in response to human suffering are not cutting it this morning.

…The hearts & prayers of the American people are with you. You have our condolences and sympathies.

Now nobody is knocking an expression of sympathy to victims. But people are frustrated at the inadequacy of the response, and of the stonewalling of the underlying issue. Plus the out and out clumsiness on Trump’s part is galling to many.
Thoughts and prayers. Always thoughts and prayers. Never anything more.
