Surprised no one has mentioned this, but of course, this doesn’t reach mainstream media. We now have yet more evidence that the Republican Party is now the Party of Trump. The Republican National Committee’s official Twitter feed decided to echo Trump’s shameful attack on Admiral William McRaven.
Worth noting after recent comments: Retired Adm. William McRaven was reportedly on Hillary Clinton’s short list for Vice President in 2016.
He’s been critical of President @realDonaldTrump— even dating back to the 2016 campaign.
He’s hardly a non-political figure.

So there you have it. The GOP has no qualms about kicking a war hero when he is down. For those who don’t know, McRaven is in a bout with leukemia—a fact pointed out by leading never-Trumper Max Boot.
The entire Republican Party is now attacking a war hero battling leukemia. Have you no shame. https://t.co/DA6FhLjd0J

The reaction from the rest of the Twitterverse has been no less unsparing.

This is absolutely disgusting…
The official @GOP account is now attacking Admiral William McRaven.
SHAME ON THEM!!!! pic.twitter.com/t0RD5Q6OIj

It’s now crystal clear what the National Republican message is – they only support the troops if the troops support them.
Pathetic, precedent shattering, and super dangerous. https://t.co/z5gTrPQDOV

What in the world was Ronna McDaniel thinking when she greenlighted this? After this, I don’t ever want to hear about “General Betray-Us” again.
Sane Republicans, you have a decision to make. Are you willing to condone your party’s “leadership” swiftboating a war hero in this way?
