Proud Californian here, looking forward to the gavel being handed over to the most effective Speaker in modern memory, Nancy Pelosi.
I have healthcare because of her.
My favorite thing of all is that she has Trump’s number. She knows how to message. (e.g. the midterms were about pre-existing conditions, not the temporary ailment known as Donald J. Trump. Thus the historic gains in the House.)
I like this deconstruction of Trump from her USA Today interview:
Pelosi scoffed in an interview published Tuesday: “First of all … he says, ‘We’re going to build a wall with cement, and Mexico’s going to pay for it.’ While he’s already backed off of the cement, now he’s down to, I think, a beaded curtain or something.”[…]
“He talked about terrorists coming in over that particular border, which wasn’t so. He talked about people bringing in diseases and all the rest of that, which wasn’t so,” said Pelosi, D-Calif., who is likely to become speaker after Democrats take over the House of Representatives next month. “He’s using scare tactics that are not evidence-based, and it’s wrong.”
She was the first to call the latest government shutdown, the Trump Shutdown and then he owned it (until he disowned it.) She let him know, that we know, that the markets were in turmoil under his stewardship.
Now she’s got his number on his curtain.
This is all before the 2019 convening of the 116th congress January 3, the most diverse Congress in American history, with a record-breaking 100 women taking seats in the chamber.
Hope you all had a Mueller Christmas and are looking forward to a Pelosi New Year!
