Myeshia Johnson ‘very upset and hurt’ by Trump’s heartless phone call—Trump calls her a liar

Myeshia Johnson, the widow of Sargent La David Johnson who was killed in Niger, tells ABC News that she didn’t reply to Donald Trump’s sympathy-free phone call.

Stephanopoulos: What did you say to the president?

Johnson: I didn’t say anything. I just listened.

Stephanopoulos: But you were upset when you got off the phone.

Johnson: Oh, very upset and hurt. Very. It made me cry even worse.

It wasn’t until Trump claimed to have already talked to all the families of the fallen that his regime even put in the effort to learn these people’s names.

The email exchange, which has not been previously reported, shows that senior White House aides were aware on the day the president made the statement that it was not accurate — but that they should try to make it accurate as soon as possible, given the gathering controversy.

• Trump lied about talking to the families.
• He lied about past presidents, including President Obama, not talking to families.
• He lied about what he said to the families, including lying to the families.
• And then Trump took a break and sent Kelly out to lie for him.

And it’s completely clear that Trump isn’t going stop lying. Because no one is going to stop him.

Despite the fact that Kelly was caught in his lies, Trump is now calling both Myeshia Johnson and Representative Frederica Wilson liars. After all, who is the world going to believe? A grieving military widow with absolutely no reason to lie, or Donald Trump?

On Wednesday morning, Wilson told MSNBC’s Morning Joe: “But that’s not the worst part. She was crying the whole time, and when she hung up the phone, she looked at me and said, ‘He didn’t even remember his name.’ That’s the hurting part.”

Over the weekend, Donald Trump continued his attack on Sargent Johnson’s mentor and family friend, Representative Frederica Wilson, who was there to hear the cruelly clueless statements from Trump.

Because the only thing more emblematic of 2017 than watching one rich, powerful, white man use his position to lie and call a woman of color juvenile names, is watching two rich, powerful, white men lie and call a woman of color by juvenile names. The only good thing about last week might be that everyone finally learned definitively that John Kelly is not the “adult in the room.” Though it seems there is still an adult in the room …

If there’s a modern analog to Joseph Welch, he might as well pack it in, because the answer to the “have you left no sense of decency” has been answered by Donald Trump time, after time, after time. It’s also been answered about John Kelly. Because it’s clear that both of them are absolutely willing to say anything, not matter how utterly despicable, for no other reason than to cause pain.

They’re not just lying. They’re lying deliberately. And they’re doing it directly to those who depend on them most.

All of it was lies, and the email exchanges between Trump’s staff shows that the people working with him knew it was all lies from the start.

Not only had the president not contacted virtually all the families of military personnel killed this year, the White House did not even have an up-to-date list of those who had been killed.

But Trump did find time on Monday morning to defend those veterans in the most important way he knows — by attacking NFL players.
