Actress Kristen Bell hosted the Screen Actors Guild awards Sunday night and she couldn’t resist taking a shot at Melania Trump. Daily Beast:
“There has never been a host for this award show before,” Bell said at the top of her monologue. “Yep, first time, first person, first lady. And I honestly never thought that I would grow up to be the first lady.
But you know what? I kind of like it,” she continued, before taking a stab at First Lady Melania Trump. “I think my first initiative as first lady will be cyberbullying, because I have yet to see any progress made on that problem quite yet.”
It was an offhand quip in a venue where the Trumps are disliked, but it spoke to a larger issue: Melania does nothing. She has the smallest staff of any First Lady in recent history. She went on record saying that she would champion bullying, particularly cyber bullying. Nothing was done. She then took over the opioid crisis. That lasted about a week. Again, nothing was done and she passed it off to Kellyanne Conway. A few weeks ago she hired three more staffers and they were going to get some policy implemented. Still not a word.
There’s no rule book for what a First Lady does. It’s been up to the woman doing the job to make of it what she will. So far, Melania’s been AWOL.
