“Civil rights icon Rep. John Lewis (D-Ga.) died on Friday at the age of 80 after battling with pancreatic cancer, per multiple reports, including NBC News and Politico. Why it matters: Lewis, one of the organizers and speakers for the infamous 1963 March on Washington and led the 1965 Selma to Montgomery marches, served in the House of Representatives since 1987 and was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2011.” (Axios)

“…we were beaten, tear-gassed, and trampled by horses. I thought I saw death. I thought I was going to die. I don’t know how I made it back, but I know we cannot rest. We cannot become weary. We must keep pushing and pulling and find a way to get in the way.”

Do not get lost in a sea of despair. Be hopeful, be optimistic. Our struggle is not the struggle of a day, a week, a month, or a year, it is the struggle of a lifetime. Never, ever be afraid to make some noise and get in good trouble, necessary trouble.

I vow to get in good trouble.
