Jared Kushner Sued by CREW for Repeated Violation of the Hatch Act

1884

A watch dog group in Washington, D.C. has filed a complaint against Jared Kushner for violation of the Hatch Act, which stipulates that government employees may not campaign for candidates while in the course and scope of their job duties. Of any law in D.C. these days, this is the one that is arguably most violated by the Trump administration. Raw Story:

“Jared Kushner, like so many other senior officials in the Trump administration, has shown a complete disregard for ethics laws with a pattern of continuous violations,” said Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington (CREW) Executive Director Noah Bookbinder. “The tone is set at the top. President Trump has made clear that he will not follow the rules himself or discipline those in his administration who do not, and his top advisors are acting accordingly.”

“Kushner’s blatantly political behavior while acting in his official capacity is a clear violation of the Hatch Act. The rules are in place to prevent the powers of the federal government from being used to unfairly benefit any candidate, and it is about time this administration started to follow them ,” Bookbinder added.

Kushner was invited on Fareed Zakaria’s show, in his capacity as senior adviser a few days ago. Then he immediately segued into his role as Trump’s campaign manager and started outlining his analysis of what voters want or don’t want and how Trump would be reelected. Here’s a link to the full complaint. CREW has it’s work cut out for it. Kellyanne Conway has violated the Hatch Act multiple times and she just laughs. And that was pre-impeachment. Post impeachment, and for the rest of the year, anything goes, because Trump now believes he’s invincible.
