Rep. Elijah Cummings, a fierce advocate for Baltimore and a civil rights and human rights champion, died today at the age of 68. It was a surprise to us all as Rep. Cummings continued to be vigorous in his pursuit of justice and fairness right up until the end, chairing the House Oversight Committee through the impeachment inquiry process. Around the world, people are mourning the death of a great man. Named after Elijah from the first book of Kings in the Old Testament, Cummings lived up to his namesake, fighting against suffering brought upon people by corrupt leaders. His passing leaves us all feeling the empty wind of loss blowing through our collective hearts.
