Looks like at least one Republican is willing to say what everyone is thinking. If Trump is so innocent, why is he behaving like a cornered rat? On Fox News Sunday morning, Gowdy said:
When you are innocent … act like it. If you’ve done nothing wrong, you should want the investigation to be as fulsome and thorough as possible.”
And when Gowdy was asked about Trump lawyer John Dowd praying that Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein will shut down the Mueller investigation:
If you have an innocent client, Mr. Dowd, act like it.
I am no lawyering expert, but it seems to me that praying for the investigation to end is pretty much an admission that Dowd believes his client is gonna get steam-rolled because he is guilty.
Gowdy is playing an interesting game here. Is he scolding Dowd, because he wants to project to Trump that he believes Trump is innocent and that his dumb lawyer is screwing it up for him? Or, when Mueller does steam-roll over Trump, does he want to be on the record that he has no reason to believe that Trump was guilty, so he can act shocked and stunned when the truth is revealed?
Either way, I am guessing this stunt was motivated by Trey Gowdy trying to advance Trey Gowdy. Which is fine with me, since at least it got him to say publically what has been obvious since the beginning: every move, every lie, and every tweet by Trump suggest that he is a man plagued by his own guilt.
