I never thought I’d be thankful for something like this, but I guess we should be thankful for small things.
As reported by CNN:
(CNN)Three weeks after the election, the White House has given formal approval for President-elect Joe Biden to receive the President’s Daily Brief, a White House official told CNN Tuesday.
Receiving a classified intelligence briefing is typically one of the first rights of a presidential candidate after winning the election. It contains information about pressing national security issues that the new president will soon face. But Biden has yet to receive an intelligence briefing because of Trump’s effort to overturn the results of the election, which cause confusion inside the federal government over whether a transition could begin.
As explained by Intelligence.gov, the “President’s Daily Brief” is
[A] daily summary of high-level, all-source information and analysis on national security issues produced for the president and key cabinet members and advisers. The PDB is coordinated and delivered by the ODNI with contributions from the CIA as well as other IC elements and has been presented in some form to the president since 1946.
As noted by the Washington Post, Trump never read it. It had to be slowly explained or pantomimed to him, lest his attention waver.
As the CNN report notes:
The PDB is often tailored to the President currently in office.
Which means that what President-Elect Biden will likely receive will be something probably akin to a children’s book, perhaps something like “Goodnight Gorilla,” Goodnight Moon, or “Where the Wild Things Are.”
Something simple, with colorful pictograms, and small words.
But, hey, it’s a start.
