Donald Trump’s longtime personal attorney, Michael Cohen, is scheduled to publicly testify Wednesday, Feb. 27 before the House Oversight Committee, in what is anticipated to be explosive testimony about the Trump Organization’s finances and Donald Trump’s behind-the-scenes behavior, including his propensity for lying, cheating, and racism.
With that in mind, Donald Trump’s biggest defender and loyalist in Congress used Twitter this afternoon to publicly threaten Michael Cohen.
Hey @MichaelCohen212 – Do your wife & father-in-law know about your girlfriends? Maybe tonight would be a good time for that chat. I wonder if she’ll remain faithful when you’re in prison. She’s about to learn a lot…

It’s more than beyond outrageous—it’s likely a federal felony. Federal law prohibits witness tampering. I tagged a few well-known legal experts on Twitter, and NBC legal analyst Maya Wiley responded quickly.
For a member of Congress to bully a witness in this manner, any witness, is a disturbing abuse of power. A congressional proceeding is covered by federal obstruction 18 USC Sec 1505 & requires corrupt intent. https://t.co/ulvpcxf8tQ

This is a quickly developing story and Gaetz is already getting inquiries and a flurry of outraged responses. He’s digging in.
Me: Any response to those who say you’re witness tampering? @mattgaetz: I’m witness testing. We still are allowed to test the veracity and character of witnesses, I think.
Me: So you disagree with those who say you’re witness tampering?
Gaetz: Yes. https://t.co/aBRZAF314A
