Federal prosecutors have reportedly recommended criminally indicting former FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe for improperly authorizing a leak to the media in 2016 about an ongoing investigation into the Clinton Foundation. The Justice Department’s inspector general concluded last year that McCabe had “lacked candor” during an internal investigation into the matter, which led to McCabe’s ouster in 2018 and loss of retirement benefits about 24 hours before he was set to leave the agency.
McCabe, who became acting FBI director in May 2017 after Donald Trump fired James Comey from the post, made the consequential decision to add Trump to the FBI’s existing counterintelligence probe into Russia’s attack on the 2016 elections. Trump has repeatedly taken aim at McCabe and his family, including cheering his dismissal in March 2018 as “a great day for democracy.” If Trump has an enemies list, McCabe surely tops it. And unfortunately, it’s nearly impossible to trust anything even remotely associated with Attorney General William Barr, who has proven to be Trump’s No. 1 stooge.
Of course he did. The pressure for this indictment has come from the president through his political appointees at Main Justice from day one. https://t.co/TvCoH0IWyi

McCabe filed a lawsuit last month alleging that he was the victim of Trump’s ire.
