Friday saw the most underwhelming release of what might be the most over-hyped document in modern political history, the Nunes Memo. Not only did the Nunes memo present a highly biased version of fact, Democratic lawmakers insist it left out facts that offset the allegations it did set out. Moreover, despite numerous opportunities to do so, Nunes has yet to deny that the White House itself participated in drafting the document. Despite all the anticipation, and the nakedly partisan purposes, the document shed no new light on the FISA intelligence gathering operation, nor allege any criminal activity or even intentionally wrongful behavior.
Yet, the underwhelming impact does not appear to have deterred Trump. When asked if Trump still had confidence in Rosenstein, Trump merely said: “You figure that one out.”
The lack of any “outrageous” conduct described within the four corners of the Nunes’ Memo has not deterred outraged cries from the White House:
“The top Leadership and Investigators of the FBI and the Justice Department have politicized the sacred investigative process in favor of Democrats and against Republicans — something which would have been unthinkable just a short time ago,” the president said. “Rank & File are great people!”
It appears that Trump believes the memo details sufficient basis for firing Rosenstein. Democratic Senator Chuck Schumer and Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi issued a stern warning:
“We write to inform you that we would consider such an unwarranted action as an attempt to obstruct justice in the Russia investigation,” the lawmakers wrote. “Firing Rod Rosenstein, DOJ Leadership, or Bob Mueller could result in a constitutional crisis of the kind not seen since the Saturday Night Massacre.”
Schumer and Pelosi are correct to get ahead of the story, we all know that Trump will fire anyone if it improves Trump’s chances of survival, or if there’s a buck to be made.
However, we the American people must send Trump our own message. Send to all your friends, and let the message spread.
We demand that the investigation be allowed to continue, without interference. Trump must not fire Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein – the one independent person standing between Trump and special investigator Robert Mueller. If Trump fired Rosenstein, Trump could replace Rosenstein with someone who could narrow the focus of the investigation, decrease the staff or budget, deny indictments, deny recommendations, demand Mueller investigate further before bringing charges, or all the above.
We must speak as one. PRESIDENT TRUMP WORKS FOR US.
He must keep Rod Rosenstein in place, and allow the investigation to go forward, or be forewarned:
THIS IS THE LINE IN THE SAND.
DO NOT FIRE ROD ROSENSTEIN
DO NOT FIRE ROBERT MUELLER
IF YOU INTERFERE WITH THE INVESTIGATION WE WILL TAKE TO THE STREETS IN EVERY CITY, IN EVERY STATE OF THIS NATION, UNTIL YOU STEP DOWN. WE WILL NOT QUIT. PRESIDENT TRUMP WILL BE FIRED BY THE AMERICAN PEOPLE
YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED. THERE WILL NOT BE A SECOND CHANCE.
