Florida’s former GOP Rep. David Jolly, ripped his own party over the GOP’s refusal to do anything about the shooting rampages through our schools, telling CNN’s Don Lemon “Republicans will never do anything on gun control.”

“Let’s be brutally honest about what we do know. I say this as a Republican: Republicans will never do anything on gun control.”

Jolly noted last year “you had Republican members of Congress shot and nearly killed after a softball practice”–and the party still did nothing.

“The idea of gun policy in the Republican party is to try to get the speaking slot at the NRA and prove that constituency that you’re further right,” Jolly said.”

I am getting pretty tired of a conservative party that believes that the answer to whatever our nation ails us is more extreme conservatism. At least this one republican seems capable of telling the truth on the matter. The current Republican crop is fine with having our kids’ blood on their hands as they fight for bona fides at the NRA convention.

This is the 12th school shooting this year and I know that I am not just speaking for myself when saying that that “thoughts and prayers” are no longer acceptable as a response. Speaking of which, Paul Ryan had this to say last September, when he offered up his “thoughts and prayers” over whatever THAT American Mass Shooting was:

“It’s disappointing, it’s sad, and this is what you’ll get from the far secular left. People who do not have faith don’t understand faith, I guess I’d have to say. And it is the right thing to do is to pray in moments like this, because you know what? Prayer works. And I know you believe that, and I believe that and when you hear the secular left doing this thing, it’s no wonder you have so much polarization and disunity in this country when people think like that.”

No, Speaker Ryan, I have a ton of faith. I have faith that God gave us minds to know when we’re being played by gun manufacturers. I have faith that God wants us to use our minds to confront politicians like you. I pray that we can create some “disunity,” because God expects us to protect children. I have more than faith, I have knowledge, that the Republicans will not do anything about the fact that our kids are in their schools dying, other than recommend more guns flood our streets, just as they’ve been telling us for thirty years, as things have gotten progressively worse. Thus, I have faith that others will hear the message that it is time to remove you from office, something Dave Jolley thinks needs to happen.

“If this is the issue that defines your ideology as a voter, there’s two things that I suggest tonight,” Jolly continued. “First, flip the house. Flip the house. Republicans are not going to do a single thing after this shooting today.”

Funny he should mention that, because protecting my daughter is exactly what fking defines my ideology. Their 2nd Amendment rights do not “trump” my daughter’s First Amendment rights: right to associate with her friends and educate herself, to speak about what she believes, to express her hopes and dreams, and find her faith as she wishes during her journey.

I just want her to have a journey.

  1. ISN’T IT TREASON NOT TO PROTECT OUR CHILDREN IN THEIR SCHOOLS? DO WE NEED TO HAVE GUN MANUFACTURERS SELLING ANYTHING THEY WANT TO, TO ANYBODY WITH ENOUGH MONEY? WHY IS COMMON SENSE AND THE WORD OF GOD, NO LONGER ON THE TABLE? AND WHO MADE IT SO?
