Republican strategist Rick Wilson – one of the respected ones – warns us that Donald Trump Jr. will run for the Republican nomination in 2024. This is not snark.

Donald Trump Jr. has been traveling the country for fundraisers and other events for Republican candidates, and he often appears on “Fox & Friends” to plug his upcoming book, “Triggered,” which signals he’s considering a run in his family’s new business, Wilson wrote in a column for The Daily Beast

Yes, because of course he is.

At least Wilson seems to have a sense of humor about it, and certainly realizes the absurdity of such a candidacy. None of which means Jr. can’t win.

“He is fluent in the language of whining, dickish grievance-mongering, which has replaced modern conservatism,” Wilson wrote. “Whether the GOP wannabe 2024 field knows it or not, it’s DJTJ’s opening shot for the 2024 nomination.”

Jesus Christ at the Iowa State Fair, he is actually right about that. There is no “Republican platform” anymore. It is nothing but railing at people Republicans hate. This could position Jr. well.

“For GOP candidates who think they’re going to finesse this one somehow, or blow up Trump Jr. in 2024, may I remind you of the hell of 2016?” Wilson said. “This time, the cult you fear so much will listen to its leader and support the dynasty. Trump’s royal fantasies won’t wait, and no matter how much any other GOP candidate has polished Donald Trump’s knob in the past years, he’ll throw them under the bus for his spawn.”

Well, I am not a GOP candidate (though I suppose I could announce as such and see what happens, I am as qualified as Don Jr., and I could jedi-mind trick them into supporting universal healthcare and taxing the rich!), I do remember the hell of 2016. And, no, Mr. Wilson, none of us need reminding that, when it comes to Republican voters, anything can happen.

There is a certain perverse logic to all of this. If Trump gets his ass kicked in 2020 (please, please god), there will be many aggrieved Trump voters just itching to get back to normal crazy. If Trump wins in 2020 (please, please god, no), there will be many wanting to keep riding the dictator train.

Of course, there would be some hurdles. After all, winning the general election would require a different strategy than winning the Republican primary:

“Making the pivot to the general election won’t just be difficult; it will be laughable,” he added. “Imagine trying to make the jump from ‘I would let Donald Trump dry hump my wife in broad daylight if he would tweet something nice about me’ to the era of ‘Trump has passed and I will lead a Republican party as it seeks to bring all Americans together as one to face the great national challenges ahead of us.’”

If all Republicans were like Rick Wilson, I would have far more Republican friends.

The presumption is that Junior will run whether Trump wins or loses in 2020. Wilson says Junior will have an easier time running if Trump loses 2020. I am not so sure. After president Bernie Warren cleans the country up, raises the poor and middle class into prosperity, ensures health care no longer bankrupts anyone, and stays the fck off Twitter, it might be a tough sludge for anyone to run on “Bring back the days of Trump!”

Thinking on this a bit, I think it is a great idea that Junior run. I think Republicans would be “smart” to nominate him. Please, do. Our country can only benefit from more debate about the merits of “Trump’s approach” to American government.

We know who Putin supports already. That isn’t snark, either.

Peace, y’all

  1. Jason Miciac, this fairy tale story you came up with is nothing but BS. Rick Wilson is a piece of crap and to even repeat this crap from him, into a story is a disgrace to journalism. In 2024 most of the Trumps will either be in prison or left the country. And my opinion is more believable than the BS you and Wilson came up with.

  2. …Yes , Jr Trump ,” studying at the foot” of his “ (absolute genius) of a Father ,”who seems to be suffering from (his Alabama memories)“ , thinks that the Conservative party is ready to “Recommit Political suicide “, with another Trump!
…He’s already shown his lack of understanding
by getting a messy divorce, while having an affair with another FOX TROTTING FRUMP.
..,Fitting into his daddy’s footsteps , and trying to lie as well as his dad , won’t work for him .
..Because ,he’s so lacking in credibility ,he can’t be seen as a serious candidate , more like a joke .
