Democratic leaders are pushing President Biden to sign off on legislation that would help eliminate some college loan debt for many Americans.

Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-NY) is backing the effort, which calls for the elimination of $50,000 worth of federal school loans per person.

Current college students like Emilie Hughes, who attends Nazareth College, say the conversation alone is a step in the right direction.

“I’m looking at graduate school knowing I’ll have $25,000 in debt and knowing there will be more. For some students though, this would be the difference between continuing their education or not,” said Hughes.

  1. Yes! My original loans totaled about $23,000. Over the years of paying what I could, lost information, and poor advise, and many many phone calls, I am beyond $50,000.. amazing how this happened.
I would welcome such a plan. Then maybe the rest could be resolved by monthly payments. Yippee
