Still Banging The Drum for War With Iran, State Dept. Orders “Non Emergency” Personnel...

(Above: Cartoon by Brazilian Artist Carlos Latuff) Whether bluffing to win concessions from Iran, to distract from the plethora of growing scandals threatening to engulf his Residency, or to throw red meat to his rabid base, drumpf and his minions Pompeo and Bolton are playing a dangerous game with Iran and they seem to be acknowledging that fact: Washington Post “BEIRUT — The State Department ordered all “non-emergency U.S. government employees” to leave Iraq Wednesday amid soaring tensions with Iran, which backs a network of proxies there. It said in a statement that the announcement affected both the U.S. Embassy in the capital, Baghdad, and a consulate in the northern city of Erbil. “Normal visa services at both posts will be temporarily suspended,” it said. “The U.S. government has limited ability to provide emergency services to U.S. citizens in Iraq.” The Trump administration has accused Iran of supporting “imminent attacks” on U.S. personnel in the region and spotlighted recent decisions to deploy an aircraft carrier, strategic bombers and other military assets to reinforce troops across the Middle East. Officials also say the White House is discussing a range of options for using military force against Iran.” Yesterday, the U.K.’s number two man in Iraq, Maj. Gen. Chris Ghika, disputed the admin’s characterization of conditions on the ground in the region saying: “there has been no increased threat from Iranian-backed forces in Iraq and Syria.” The Pentagon and U.S. Central Command pushed back on Ghika, and U.S. News National Security reporter Paul D. Shrinkman thinks he knows why the military is allowing it’s doggie to be wagged: Despite what Arkansas’s Republican war-hawk Senator Tom Cotton says, conflict with Iran would not be a matter of lobbing a couple of missiles their way. Unlike Iraq, Iran has significant sea and air defenses, allied forces in Iraq, Syria, Yemen and Lebanon and a close alliance with Russia, as well as the ability to choke off a significant portion of the world’s oil supply from reaching market. The State Department should be looking for ways to avoid conflict with Iran instead of shaking its fist at them at the behest of Bolton and drumpf. Please follow me on Twitter @durrati

British Major General – “no increased threat from Iranian-backed forces in Iraq and Syria”

(Above: Who are you gonna believe, this guy or Major Chickenhawk Bolton?) Business Insider “The US has spent the past week and a half warning that it has credible intelligence that Iran was plotting attacks against US interests in the region. A British general with the anti-ISIS coalition in Iraq and Syria contradicted that assessment Tuesday, triggering a rebuke from the US military. “There are a range of threats to American and coalition forces in Iraq and Syria,” British Maj. Gen. Chris Ghika, Operation Inherent Resolve deputy commander for stability, told reporters at the Pentagon Tuesday, explaining that while Iranian-backed forces is clearly one of them, “there has been no increased threat from Iranian-backed forces in Iraq and Syria.” US Central Command, however, issued a statement a few hours later arguing that the general’s comments were inaccurate.” Unfortunately, U.S. Central Command is currently commanded by Private Bonespurs and Major Chickenhawk Bolton. Below is Major General Ghika’s resume. Operation Inherent Resolve “Maj Gen Christopher Ghika is the Deputy Commander-Strategy and Information (S&I) Combined Joint Task Force – Operation Inherent Resolve. Maj. Gen. Ghika was commissioned into the Irish Guards in 1993.  His early service was spent in London, Canada and Northern Ireland as a Platoon Commander, Company Second in Command and Regimental Signals Officer.  In 1998, he was appointed Adjutant 1st Battalion Irish Guards, and while in this post deployed with the Battalion to Macedonia and then entered Kosovo in June 1999.  At the end of his time as Adjutant, he spent six months as a UN Military Observer in the civil war in Sierra Leone.  He attended the Advanced Command and Staff Course from 2001-2003.   After Staff College, he spent two years from 2003-2005 working on the Army staff in the Ministry of Defence before commanding a company in Germany, Canada and Iraq.  He then returned to the Ministry of Defence to be the Military Assistant to the Deputy Chief of the Defence Staff (Operations).   In 2010, he assumed command of 1st Battalion Irish Guards and deployed for six months to Helmand Province, Afghanistan.  In 2012-13, he worked in in the Army Headquarters and attended the Higher Command and Staff Course.  The following year he was appointed to be Deputy Commander of the 1st (US) Infantry Division in Kansas, USA.  He deployed with the Divisional HQ to Iraq for nine months as the Deputy Land Component Commander in 2015.   He was appointed Head of Personnel Capability in the Army Headquarters in September 2015.   He was promoted to Major General in April 2018 and takes up the post as Deputy Commander Strategy and Information of Operation Inherent Resolve from summer 2018.” I believe the guy that’s been in the sh**.

Trump’s Rage Tweets Should Trigger ‘Silver Alert In 3 States’ But Look At The...

If you didn’t see this already, Trump gushed out no less than 62 rage-tweets over the weekend, and they are now part of the official presidential record. Future historians will pour over them, assuming that our species survives and there is a future — or, alternatively, some space traveler, trekking through the stars, might land here one day and unearth these treasures from the ruins of the Library of Congress. If that is the case, then I shudder to think what impression that person will get of our culture. But, this is who we are, who the sitting *resident is, in any event, in 2019. In any rational world, a 72-year-old tweeting shit like this, and there'd be a Silver Alert out in a three state area. pic.twitter.com/kxnPruGm4m — Stonekettle (@Stonekettle) May 12, 2019 29 tweets were about Mueller and Russia, 19 were about Don Jr., a few were about China and the tariffs, the border, of course, Joe Biden, and last, that standard staple, Hillary’s emails. No rage-fest is complete without that. Now, take a look at the China tweets, because the interesting thing here is that Trump assures us how totally terrific-ly that situation is being handled. This is where it goes off the rails. ….We will then spend (match or better) the money that China may no longer be spending with our Great Patriot Farmers (Agriculture), which is a small percentage of total Tariffs received, and distribute the food to starving people in nations around the world! GREAT! #MAGA — Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) May 12, 2019 So, China is not only handled, it’s “GREAT!” in fact, and the situation is precisely as Donald Trump designed it to be. However, there’s this tweet. China is DREAMING that Sleepy Joe Biden, or any of the others, gets elected in 2020. They LOVE ripping off America! — Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) May 12, 2019 This is partially true. I daresay China is dreaming that somebody sane returns to the negotiating table in 2020. But the issue is that the tweet reveals Trump’s massive ego and capacity for delusion, for which the rest of us suffer. He’s too messed up to know that he effed up totally with respect to China and now he’s trying to put it on the Chinese, who love to rip us off and know just how to rip off a Democrat. Right. Trump’s real issue is that he doesn’t understand even the most basic difference between distributive and integrative marketing, and this is where the China negotiations collapsed early on. This is a gross oversimplification of the two terms just used, but if you have a pie on the table and we negotiate for it, one of us gets the pie. So one of us “wins” or “loses” which is all Trump understands from any situation. That is distributive marketing. If, on the other hand, the maker of the pie on the table says to you, “This is one of thousands of pies, and I have a truck outside, and you have stores that sell my pies, and we’re both going to profit,” that is an example of integrative marketing. Both parties win. Trump doesn’t get even this much. He thinks that distributive marketing principles apply in a world which is governed by principles of […]

Iran Urges Diplomacy as Trump White House Ramps Up ‘Wildly Reckless’ Threats of War

Trump Was Lying About Carrier Task Force Deployment to Iran. Big Surprise.

So, a few days ago Trump trotted out John Bolton to threaten Iran, saying the deployment was meant “to send a clear and unmistakable message to the Iranian regime that any attack on United States interests or on those of our allies will be met with unrelenting force.” Of course that turns out to be utter nonsense as the deployment was planned months ago. Breaking Defense “WASHINGTON:  The day after the White House released a stern statement announcing the immediate deployments of an aircraft carrier strike group and bomber wing to the Persian Gulf to deter an unnamed Iranian threat, Navy chief Adm. John Richardson was put in what has become a familiar position for the Pentagon brass: explaining a surprise White House statement on a controversial topic. In response to National Security Advisor Advisor John Bolton’s Sunday evening statement that the forces were being dispatched to the Gulf in response to “a number of troubling and escalatory indications and warnings,” by Iran, Richardson said Monday that, essentially, the deployment was just business as usual. “The Abraham Lincoln Strike Group was planned to deploy for some time now,” Richardson told the SeaAirSpace conference. He touted the Lincoln’s new route to the Gulf as an example of “dynamic force employment,” a new Navy tactic that is meant to surprise potential adversaries by having US ships show up off their coastlines without warning. He didn’t explain how a White House press release is an example of tactical surprise.” Not only did Trump and Bolton fail to distract from the political calamity du jour, they also blew the primary mission of the deployment, to achieve tactical surprise.
