Trump Blames Media For ‘Chosen One’ Gaffe As Evangelical Leaders Finally Turn On Him

The cantaloupe Caligula really stepped in it the other day when he looked heavenward and said, “I am the Chosen One, and I’m gonna take on China.” It would take godly intervention for a fat trust fund baby to take on 1.42 billion people but Trump assured us all the other day from the White House lawn that he had it covered. Alas, he FINALLY managed to stir up the evangelicals with this remark. And you know he can’t afford to lose that portion of his base. But a few finally showed some backbone and  called their congress members and wrote op-eds.  One evangelical pastor, writing in the Washington post called his words “sacrilege.” …one of Trump’s most disturbing steps came Wednesday, when the president, who claims to be a Christian, tweeted quotes of and therefore validated radio host Wayne Allyn Root’s words that “the Jewish people love [Trump] … like he’s the King of Israel. They love him like he is the second coming of God.” Christians believe and profess that the only true “King of Israel” is God, as clearly stated inIsaiah 44:6, and that he sent his son, Jesus Christ, the Messiah, into this world. That makes the description of Trump as “the second coming of God” shocking, blasphemous and sacrilegious. […] Trump is neither the “Second Coming of God” nor the “Messiah.” In repeating the profane quote, he gave a narcissistic endorsement and even thanked Root, a well-known conspiracy theorist, for his words. Messianic claims are dangerous, because God does not share glory with anyone. Woot! Watch out Donnie Dum Dum! This is how people get struck by lightning or wind up as pillars of salt — which the writer goes on to warn Trump in the next paragraph — with scripture.  In the New Testament chapter of Acts 12, Herod was called “God.” Herod’s response? He took credit. The Lord’s response? He sent an angel to kill Herod. In Herod’s case, the Bible doesn’t say he repeated the title — only that he allowed it to be spoken. Perhaps the president can learn from Herod’s mistake. If I had to lay odds on what brought Trump to explain his idiot comments on Wednesday, I would say it was this piece, published in the Washington Post. And here is the best contrition that Trump came up with — he blamed somebody else. Jerome Powell was probably relieved that this time it wasn’t him. ….having fun. I was smiling as I looked up and around. The MANY reporters with me were smiling also. They knew the TRUTH…And yet when I saw the reporting, CNN, MSNBC and other Fake News outlets covered it as serious news & me thinking of myself as the Messiah. No more trust! — Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) August 24, 2019 Trump's claim that he was "just having fun" and "smiling" when he referred to himself as "the chosen one" the other day is a demonstrable lie. Here's the tweet Trump posted trying to rewrite history, followed by the video. pic.twitter.com/Y1VT5diqN2 — Aaron Rupar (@atrupar) August 24, 2019 Trump is right about one thing. Everything he says is a joke. Just not the funny ha ha kind, rather the pathetic flailing loser kind. He’s got to make nice with the evangelicals and this isn’t going to […]

For History, Circle Today: The Beginning of the End

Yes, mark today. When talking to grandkids, historians, others over at Starbucks, August 23, 2019, was the confluence of all things insane in the Trump presidency, the tipping point. Why today? Because today brought forth the perfect storm in cascading bad news involving Trump problems politically, the country’s fate economically, our international relationships, Trump’s issues with the Democrats in Congress, and it’s all wrapped in and around questions regarding Trump’s fitness, his competence, frankly, his mental health. I suspect historians, in pointing to today, will all start with this, as posted by Urs earlier today: ….better off without them. The vast amounts of money made and stolen by China from the United States, year after year, for decades, will and must STOP. Our great American companies are hereby ordered to immediately start looking for an alternative to China, including bringing.. — Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) August 23, 2019 “Our great American companies are hereby ordered to immediately start looking for an alternative to China …” We could start with this: Does he actually believe he has the authority to order American companies to change their business plans? If he knows he doesn’t, then what motivated a quote that any sentient person knows will send markets tanking? One can find a great deal of fault in our China policy, I sure do, but it seems important to note that “our great American companies” would not BE American companies if the president could order them around. Moreover, if there were viable and economically sensible alternatives to China, our “great American companies” wouldn’t be manufacturing in China, nor selling stuff there. But he tweeted it anyway, which makes one wonder if he’s now just tweeting economic “orders” off the cuff, as the “leader of the free world.” This is terrifying. Today was the day we heard that a whistle blower from the IRS went to the Democrats in the House with inside information on Trump’s tax issues, stating that he/she saw irregularities. Whistleblowers only become whistleblowers when they have no confidence in the usual channels. The usual channels in this case involve reporting to Trump sycophants. This whistleblower could easily have handed the Democrats in the House all that is needed to sink Trump, on their own, and there would be a bit of a lag before we knew. Today was the day that the markets figured out that our trade war with China will not be ending soon, and will not be ending any more favorably than when it began. It certainly will not end with an economic gain that makes up the economic pain imposed upon the beating heart of the American economy, the agriculture industry. Today was the day that opened with news about the new AP poll showing Trump had only a 36% approval rating and a 62% disapproval rating. Nearly 2 in 3 Americans disapprove of Trump, as of today. Horrid poll numbers. Today Trump winged off to the G7 Summit in the south of France where he will meet with real world leaders who have no reason to take him seriously, other than to seriously fear what he’ll fuck up next. Oh! They already fear his new “thoughts” on letting Russia back into the “G” and making it “8” again, because “we talk about Russia all the time.” Right […]
