Per the recent post, Barr’s links to Jeffrey Epstein get messier, U.S. attorney general Bill Barr will not recuse himself in Jeffrey Epstein’s sex trafficking and conspiracy case. There are family connections between Barr and Epstein — Epstein was employed by Barr’s father. There are longtime connections between Trump and Epstein, including being the lone males partying together with 28 women they lured in with a “calendar girl” competition at Mar-a-Lago. So there is very good reason why Barr should recuse himself from this investigation, and very good reason to be concerned about improper interference if he gets involved.
If Barr orders SDNY to not investigate Trump in association with this matter, presumably there would be the threat of termination, or other penalties, for noncompliance with such an order. There would be a benefit to following such an order — continued employment, or at minimum, avoidance of a penalty. This would be a violation of NY State law:
200.20 Rewarding official misconduct in the second degree.
A person is guilty of rewarding official misconduct in the second degree when he knowingly confers, or offers or agrees to confer, any benefit upon a public servant for having violated his duty as a public servant.
Rewarding official misconduct in the second degree is a class E felony.
Notice that this law references “a person” without any qualification. That would include a nonresident operating from outside the state. This law also references ” a public servant” without any further qualification, so that would include employees of the federal government operating within New York State.
According to this recent post:
CNN is reporting that the investigation being conducted into the Trump Organization by U.S. attorneys in the Manhattan District of New York appears to be wrapping up with no charges whatsoever. … In fact, there has been no contact between the U.S. Attorney’s office and officials at the Trump Organization for over five months.
It doesn’t appear that the investigation into the Trump Organization has wrapped up after finding nothing wrong. It appears that, five months ago, the investigation was simply halted,…
Five months ago when when William Barr was confirmed as attorney general.
If Barr ordered these attorneys to back away from their duties the same law applies.
Calling Letitia James…
