Goo for Guts Democratic Moderates Complain About Condemning Trump, Defending Pelosi.

(Above – Your shadow is only gonna get scarier when you’re alone.) Greg Sargent, in his Plum Line Blog @ The Washington Post, wrote about a group of moderate Democrats who took to the pages of The New York Times to express their “discomfort” in being asked to support the House Resolution condemning *rump for his racist attacks of four Democratic Congresswomen and opposing  the Rethuglicans efforts to strike Speaker Pelosi’s comments about that resolution from the record, in which she dared to call a racist a racist. Below is Pelosi’s statement in support of the resolution and Rep. Cleaver’s reaction to Republican protests to hearing the truth: And here is the moderates’ complaint, from the Times: “While Democrats were publicly unanimous in their support of the resolution, some moderate lawmakers from Republican-leaning districts that backed Mr. Trump in 2016 privately voiced their discomfort. They said that while the president’s comments had been racist, the party was playing into his hands by spending so much time condemning his remarks, according to centrist lawmakers and senior aides who spoke on the condition of anonymity to describe internal discussions. They were particularly angry about being asked to vote to condone Ms. Pelosi’s breach of the rules, which two of them described as throwing moderate lawmakers “under the bus” in order to help the speaker shore up support among progressives who had been alienated by her feud with Ms. Ocasio-Cortez and her allies. One lawmaker described the upshot of the extraordinary episode as “another week burned on his terms instead of ours.” Sargent was sympathetic to their political situation, but, like me, incensed about their cowardice. “This is just terrible. To be clear, I’m sympathetic to the plight of moderates. It’s true that they inhabit districts that are far more Republican-leaning than, say, those of Reps. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and the rest of “the Squad.” Some of the positions House moderates adopt are understandable. I personally favor an impeachment inquiry, but recognize that moderates might have legitimate political hesitations, and also recognize that the arguments against launching one are not wildly absurd. On immigration, the Senate border supplemental that moderates ultimately supported was far worse than the House version in terms of protections for migrants, but the Senate version was far better than nothing, and backing it was not unreasonable… No amount of time condemning this — no amount of time spent telling the country as loudly and urgently as possible that it is wrong, and that the Democratic Party stands for the proposition that it is entirely unacceptable in a president — is too much… Moderate Democrats: No matter how purple your district is, if you can’t explain to swing voters why Trump’s racist and white-nationalist displays and provocations are unacceptable in terms that they’ll understand — if this isn’t a fight you want to have — then you should ask yourself what the heck you’re doing there in the first place.” I agree 100% with Sargent’s remarks and, for myself, will say this: I recognize that Republican gerrymanders have made it necessary for Democrats to win purple districts in order to maintain control of the House. But the foundation on which we build that House majority is created by women who reject the Republican attempts to strip from them the autonomy of their own bodies, and minority communities the Republicans seek to marginalize […]

Pompeo’s Lying Point Man on Iran, Brian Hook, Said Iran “Blew...

(Above – Brian Hook) So, I’m listening to NPR on my car radio this morning and I’m surprised to learn that Iran “blew up” a Japanese Oil Tanker last month when Japanese Prime Minister Abe visited Tehran last month. The purveyor of this whopper was Brian Hook the U.S. Special Representative for Iran in Trump and Pompeo’s State Department. He was speaking to NPR’s Steve Inskeep, who did not push back on Hook’s lie one bit. NPR “July 16, 20195:06 AM ET Heard on Morning Edition INSKEEP: Does the United States want to talk with Iran? HOOK: President Trump and Secretary of State Pompeo have made clear over the last year or two that we are very open to diplomatically resolving our differences with Iran. But Iran has rejected diplomacy too many times, even as recently as Japanese Prime Minister Abe went to Tehran – the first Japanese prime minister to visit the Islamic Republic – they rejected his diplomacy. He was there on behalf of the president. INSKEEP: Tried to be a mediator, in a sense. HOOK: Tried to be a mediator, and the Iranian supreme leader rejected it. And while Abe was in the country, they blew up a Japanese oil tanker. And so we have made it clear that we have an ear open to what is possible. The – Secretary Pompeo has said in the past he would sit down and talk without preconditions. But Iran has got to start changing its behavior; they’ve got to choose a better path. INSKEEP: Do you think that the economic sanctions that the U.S. has tightened and tightened and tightened are having the desired effect on Iran? HOOK: We know they are. During the life of the Iran nuclear deal, Iran’s military spending reached record highs – they had spent $14 billion. The first month we were in office, Iran’s military spending went down 10%, and then this year it’s gone down 28%. We also have Iran’s proxies – Hezbollah and Hamas and the Houthis in Yemen are weaker today financially than when – two years ago, when we took office. And so this economic pressure is a necessary component if you want to get Iran back to the negotiating table….” You are welcome to read the NPR article but you will not find any more evidence on Inskeep challenging Hook on this absurd lie than Hook has for the assertion that Iran perpetrated the attack on the Japanese Tanker Kokuka Courageous. And even if you accepted the manufactured “evidence” that Iran placed a small mine on the tanker, which it’s owner does not, the goddamned  ship was not “blown up” by any fevered stretch of a bloodthirsty NeoCon’s imagination: This is not blown up. This is blown up. Hook worked for John Bolton in the Bush administration of course) and last March was under investigation by the State Dept’s Inspector General for the improper firing of career State Department officials. ( I looked but could not find out if that has been resolved yet). And that same Daily Beast article linked above explains that he is not only Pompeo’s guy for Iran, he’s one of  Kushner’s guys in Saudi Arabia.  “And while staffers typically have short shelf lives in the Trump administration, Hook has managed to become a lasting and growing presence. He’s the rare member of former Secretary of […]

Trump Hangs Photo of Kim Jong Un in West Wing, Twitterers...

(Above – Photo courtesy of Twitter user ReallyBrad1968) Huffington Post “Four new photos hung in the White House on Monday include a picture of the man whom President Donald Trump has called “my friend” — North Korean leader Kim Jong Un….  The new photo shows Trump stepping into North Korea late last month as Kim looks at Trump’s feet. Trump traveled to the Demilitarized Zone and, very briefly, North Korea following the G-20 Summit in Osaka, Japan. He was the first president to set foot in the insular communist country. Another photo shows Trump standing with soldiers at the DMZ. The other two hung Monday are from events marking the 75th anniversary of D-day weeks earlier — one with Trump applauding alongside Britain’s Queen Elizabeth and Prince Charles at an event in England, and the other with French President Emmanuel Macon in Normandy watching a flyover. The latest additions to the White House wall were reported with a photo in a tweet by senior Bloomberg political reporter Jennifer Jacobs….” New photos hung on West Wing walls today include Kim Jong Un. pic.twitter.com/mW023luHfn — Jennifer Jacobs (@JenniferJJacobs) July 15, 2019 Above is the entire display. “Top Democrats” Pimp Poll Showing AOC Unpopular with White Voters, Even...

(Above – “Where’d you get this poll?”) Axios “Top Democrats are circulating a poll showing that one of the House’s most progressive members — Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez — has become a definitional face for the party with a crucial group of swing voters. Why it matters: These Democrats are sounding the alarm that swing voters know and dislike socialism, warning it could cost them the House and the presidency. The poll is making the rounds of some of the most influential Democrats in America. “If all voters hear about is AOC, it could put the [House] majority at risk,” said a top Democrat who is involved in 2020 congressional races. “[S]he’s getting all the news and defining everyone else’s races.” The poll — taken in May, before Speaker Pelosi’s latest run-in with AOC and the three other liberal House freshmen known as “The Squad” — included 1,003 likely general-election voters who are white and have two years or less of college education. These are the “white, non-college voters” who embraced Donald Trump in 2016 but are needed by Democrats in swing House districts.” AOC Please follow me on Twitter @durrati

Thank you Naveed Jamali for profiling these seven great immigrant Americans and allowing them to represent the millions of others who have joined our family of Americans and are better citizens then Trump and his brood of takers will ever be. “An Act of Diplomatic Vandalism” Sir Kim Strikes at Trump Again...

(Above: Sir Kim Darroch, reaching the right conclusions.) Kim Darroch, the former Ambassador from Great Britain to the United States, who was forced to resign his post last week after memos leaked that recounted him calling the Mango Misogynist  “inept and insecure”, which only burnished his credentials in many eyes, has struck back at drumpf from his political grave, as new memos surface in which he gives his opinion of the Tangerine Turd-bucket’s mangling of what is commonly called “the Iran Deal”. BBC “Donald Trump abandoned the Iran nuclear deal to spite Barack Obama, according to a leaked memo written by the UK’s former ambassador in the US. Sir Kim Darroch described the move as an act of “diplomatic vandalism”, according to the Mail on Sunday. The paper says the memo was written after the then Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson appealed to the US in 2018 to stick with the nuclear deal. The latest leak came despite the Met Police warning against publication.” Yes, Scotland Yard is jolly well concerned about the leaks, which facilitate British functionaries being outed for reaching the perfectly sane and correct appraisal that drumpf is an idiot. The Daily Mail, which published the Memo, other newspapers and various MPs have clapped back at the police, contending it is in the public interest for the proles to know what an idiot their leaders think the Over-baked Ogre is: “A spokesman said: “What could be more in the public interest than a better understanding of how this position was reached, which may have serious consequences for world peace?”   Not to mention, it is highly entertaining. The Root Posts Vid of Dershowitz Calling Victimized Child a Prostitute....

The Root “Welp, welcome to the slippery sleazy slope that comes with billionaire Jeffrey Epstein’s recent arrest for child sex trafficking. Internet sleuths have uncovered a 2015 video of Harvard attorney and Epstein’s friend, Alan Dershowitz, who worked to get Epstein a sweetheart deal in a 2008 plea agreement, admitting to getting a massage at Epstein’s mansion. During an interview with Miami news station WPLG regarding Britain’s Prince Andrew (another friend of Epstein) and his alleged sexual involvement with an underaged girl who was allegedly kept as a sex slave by Epstein, Dershowitz not only bashed the accuser, calling her an “admitted prostitute and a serial liar” but claimed that the then-teen was not victimized and in fact “made her own decisions in life.” Watch the entire interview below but I warn you, it’s triggering and mad cringey. Dershowitz has said he is “proud” of his work at “getting the best possible deal” for his “client” but if he was in his house (just if, he hasn’t been convicted) crimin’ along with Epstein is it even legal, let alone ethical for him to then represent him?

The Squad, Prof Tribe, Merkley, Charles Pierce, Brian Fallon, Jayapal Hit...

(If they are wrong I don’t want to be right.) It’s probably not racist, but it is certainly unconscionable that The Democratic Speaker of the House of Representatives should join, for the first time in this session, House Republicans and Blue Dogs to fund Trump’s border camps over the objection of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus: CHC Statement on the Passage of the Border Supplemental Appropriation Jun 27, 2019  Press Release WASHINGTON— Today, the Congressional Hispanic Caucus released the following statement on the House passage of H.R. 3401, the Emergency Humanitarian Supplemental, by a vote of 305-102: “The passage of the Senate supplemental bill is a betrayal of our American values. This bill – opposed by the Hispanic Caucus and nearly 100 Democratic members of the House — will not stop the Trump Administration’s chaos and cruelty. It will not stop the abuse and detention of children. It will not stop the rampant human rights abuses in government custody. It will not stop the Trump Administration from tearing families apart and turning away asylum-seekers. As a result, migrants will continue to die. “When the Congressional Hispanic Caucus members see suffering at the border, we see our children and our grandchildren. What happened today is unacceptable, and we will not forget this betrayal. Moving forward, we will continue fighting for immigrants to be treated with dignity and respect, work to end Trump’s deportation agenda, and fix our broken immigration system.” And then for that same Speaker, while noshing from Maureen Dowd’s plate, to demean those allies of the CHC… “All these people have their public whatever and their Twitter world,” she said. “But they didn’t have any following. They’re four people and that’s how many votes they got.” (Yeah, only four plus the other 91 progressives who joined them in voting no..) And go on to lament that the ‘Resident, the motherfucker who lied and demagogued the camps into existence, was not in the country to work with her to make the bill more palatable: “Trump called Pelosi from overseas to congratulate her on passing the border bill. “I actually think if he were here, we might have had a better shot” at getting more of what the Democrats wanted in the bill, she said. “One thing he understands is the public view of things.”  That shit would make a cat laugh. If drumpf understood the “public view of things” he’d resign and hie his fat ass back to Bedminster or Mar-a-Loogie and stop ripping the country apart. Well, some liberals and progressives aren’t buying the company line. Yesterday, at Net Roots, this from Senator Jeff Merkley, as reported by Business Insider: “Merkley blamed House Speaker Nancy Pelosi for giving into Republicans and moderate Democrats for deciding not to allow Democrats to conference on the aid package last week. He said that Senate Democrats were under the impression that it would go to conference — a chance to hash out differences between House and Senate bills — rather than the House voting on the Senate version of the bill. ”The complete assumption on the Senate side was that Speaker Pelosi would take it to conference, and she didn’t,” Merkley said, calling the outcome “horrendous.” The House ultimately passed the bipartisan legislation without the support of almost 100 Democrats. Outspoken progressives, including Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, were infuriated by the […]

‘Four Score and Seven Covfefes Ago…’ Lincoln’s Bust Suffers Indignity at...

(Above – Poster – “Who can figure out the meaning of covfefe??? Enjoy!”) How better to display one’s total disrespect of and desire to obliterate any semblance of regard for what remains of the reputation American culture and letters than to display a prop memorializing the utter ignorance and jackfoonery of our least grammatically enabled Chief executive next to a bust honoring our most literate one? Attendees of yesterday’s White House Social Media ‘rasslin’ match, which attempted to inculcate in the American consciousness such lowlights and dimwits as QAnon conspiracy promoter and right-wing radio rodeo -clown Bill Mitchell, Maxwell Smart wannabe and founder of the inaptly named lie factory Project Veritas attendee James O’Keefe, crazy cousin who won’t stop sending you birther emails representative Marsha Blackburn, strong arming idiot and  MADD scourge Floriduh Rep. Matt Gaetz, not to mention the incredible Gorka, were likely dumbfounded (as they inevitably are) and delighted at just such a tableau on display in the hollowed out halls. And then they got to hear it speak! Washington Post “But in seemingly candid comments, Trump offered a rare glimpse into his largely transactional approach to Twitter. Between remarks to the assembled crowd of conservative social media influencers at the White House, he cracked wise on everything from his spelling mishaps (“If I have a spelling deal, they will put it on”) to his view of the medium (“I call Twitter a typewriter”). Trump bemoaned the news media’s apparent harping on even his smallest errors — “Any kind of a punctuation mistake, they put it on,” he said,  “so I’m very, very careful” — and claimed that he’s actually something of a human spell-checker. “Really I’m actually a good speller, but everyone said the fingers aren’t as good as the brain,” the president said.” Good Lord, those tiny digits are truly beyond all hope in that case. “Trump also talked about his almost childlike glee in sending out a tweet and watching the number of people who follow on Twitter methodically tick up. “A good tweet, it goes up,” the president said. Adopting the tone of an auctioneer, Trump began rattling through how his follower count would creep northward, often after an incendiary missive. “It used to go up, it would say 7,000, 7,008-7,000, 7,017, 7,024, 7,032, 7,044, right?” he said, to laughter. “Now it goes 7,000, 7,008, 6,998. Then they go 7,009, 6,074. I say, ‘What is going on? It never did that before.’ ” Between this event and the Wingnut-Woodstock at his Memorial last week, poor marbleized Honest Abe must be ready to re-animate and take a rail-splitter handle to these idiots. I, on the other hand, am delighted for the opportunity to typewriter this, put it on and watch it tick up. Thank you all for reading. Please follow me on Twitter @durrati
