Eugene Robinson – Trump “making a sad clown of himself.”

I would posit, Eugene, that this actually happened sometime in the seventies but nonetheless this is an excellent read: Washington Post “What kind of man visits two grieving communities, shattered by horrific mass shootings, and somehow makes it all about him? I covered the Virginia Tech shooting in 2007 and had trouble sleeping for weeks afterward; colleagues of mine have had similar reactions to other massacres. Yet what apparently lingered with President Trump from his trip Wednesday to Dayton, Ohio, and El Paso was the tone of the coverage he received on cable news. No one expected Trump to play the consoler-in-chief role particularly well; we know him by now and grade him on a curve. His prepared statement Monday on the deadly shootings, which he read from a teleprompter with all the passion of a hostage tape, was about all anyone could expect. But even with my jaundiced view of this president, I couldn’t have imagined that soon after getting home to the White House, he would be tweeting about all the “love, respect & enthusiasm” he was shown and complaining that the “Fake News worked overtime trying to disparage me.” Me, me, me, me, me. Always me, never anyone or anything else. Robinson then goes on at length about the reasons that the GOP and Trump will not defy Wayne LaPierre and the NRA to pass anything on gun control, before wrapping up: “While Trump was making a sad clown of himself, Joe Biden was in Iowa giving a fine speech of the kind we expect from a president after tragedies such as this past weekend’s — a speech that puts what happened in context and points the way forward. At one point, Biden repeated something he has said throughout the campaign — that he fears that having Trump in the White House for a second term could irrevocably change the nation. I used to think that was hyperbole, but I’ve come to fear he may be right.” Biden is most emphatically right, Eugene, the nation has already changed, much for the worse. We must all fight like madmen and women to make sure the present steady descent into hell is somehow stopped. ………………………………………………………………………………………………………………… Please follow me on Twitter @durrati

Gun Wielding, Knife Brandishing Trumpist Detained, Released in El Paso.

A boy…man with a rifle spotted brandishing a knife near a immigrant community center in El Paso was briefly detained and then sent on his merry way. He plans to drive to Portland to decorate the protests there. Cop — “He has rights.” NBS News “An armed Trump supporter was detained and released by police Wednesday outside a community space for immigrants in El Paso, Texas, days after a mass shooting that killed 22 people at a Walmart in the border town. Witnesses said they called police after Thomas Bartram, 21, made threatening comments to people and brandished a knife while sitting in his truck outside of community center Casa Carmelita. His truck was emblazoned with pro-Trump banners and bumper stickers promoting InfoWars, a far-right conspiracy website and radio show… …Bartram acknowledged he was legally carrying a pistol but denied waving it around, and said the gloves and knife could be explained. “I was eating prickly pears,” he said. The white powder was a protein supplement, Bartram said he takes along with other Alex Jones’ branded nutritional supplements. Bartram is no longer in El Paso but on his way to Portland, Oregon, to attend a protest that local officials have warned is expected to turn violent… …Ana Deveze, of Casa Carmelita told NBC News that police also recovered a loaded gun, ammunition and a bag of white powder from the man’s truck. She said people at the community center are still “terrified” and “frustrated.” Deveze said El Paso police officers were confrontational with the witnesses and eventually told them Bartram hadn’t broken any laws. “He has rights,” Deveze said police told her.” I know you can carry whatever you want in Texas, brandishing a knife seems to me to be breaking some laws. I guess its OK if you are a white supremacist Trump loving idiot. ………………………………………………………………………………………………………………… Please follow me on Twitter @durrati

WAPO – None of the patients being treated at Hospital in...

When the Trump campaign swooped down on The Miami valley Hospital in Dayton yesterday to produce a freaking political ad…. The travelling press was not allowed to accompany the group, so that the cretins trying to re-elect the shit-for-brains could pick and choose who he met with. El Paso was later in the day, so if they make another campaign ad we’ll likely see it today. But before this other piece of propaganda comes out, read the following in the Washington Post so you will know the whole story: (Bolds mine) “EL PASO — On a day when President Trump vowed to tone down his rhetoric and help the country heal following two mass slayings, he did the opposite — lacing his visits Wednesday to El Paso and Dayton, Ohio, with a flurry of attacks on local leaders and memorializing his trips with grinning thumbs-up photos. None of the eight patients still being treated at University Medical Center in El Paso agreed to meet with Trump when he visited the hospital, UMC spokesman Ryan Mielke said. Two victims who already had been discharged returned to the hospital with family members to meet with the president. “This is a very sensitive time in their lives,” Mielke said. “Some of them said they didn’t want to meet with the president. Some of them didn’t want any visitors.” Before Trump’s visit Wednesday, however, some of the hospitalized victims accepted visits from a number of city and county elected officials, as well as Reps. Veronica Escobar (D-Tex.) and Jesús “Chuy” García (D-Ill.).” The Trump campaign doesn’t give a shit about the people of Dayton or El Paso, they only care about their value as props for his BS campaign ads. Remember this as you see the photos coming out. And tell your friends. ………………………………………………………………………………………………………………… Please follow me on Twitter @durrati

Chip Off the Old Block. “Students for Trump” Founder Pleads Guilty...

Scamming other students into voting for Trump didn’t have enough of a payoff, so he stole $45,000… NY Daily News “The founder of Students for Trump pleaded guilty Tuesday to running a $46,000 scam in which he posed as a lawyer and gave legal advice. John Lambert, 23, created a website for a fake law firm called Pope & Dunn and claimed to be Eric Pope, a graduate of NYU Law School with a finance degree from the University of Pennsylvania and 15 years of experience in corporate and patent law, prosecutors said…. …“John Lambert represented himself to clients as a prominent New York attorney with a law degree from an elite law school. But Lambert’s de facto career was one of a grifter: he had never been to law school and certainly wasn’t an attorney. Today, Lambert admitted to his crimes and faces time in prison for his misdeeds,” Manhattan U.S. Attorney Geoffrey Berman said… …He pleaded guilty to wire fraud conspiracy. Under his plea deal with prosecutors, he will not appeal a sentence that is 21 months or less. He also agreed to forfeit $46,654.” Your mistake, as I see it, John, is that, unlike your role model Trump, you did not have your daddy give you $400,000,000 before you embarked on your life of crime. That way you could have hired yourself some real lawyers to grease the skids and keep you out of jams like this. Live and learn… ………………………………………………………………………………………………………………… Please follow me on Twitter @durrati

AOC to Young People Being Radicalized by The Right – “Come...

This is just an amazing speech. Last Night AOC spoke at The Grand Army Plaza in Brooklyn to a crowd gathered to discuss the dreadful events that transpired over the weekend. Gothamist.com “Beyond calling for national gun-control measures, many speakers focused their remarks on denouncing white supremacy, drawing loud cheers from the crowd. They pointed to white supremacy as the cause of mass shootings like the one in El Paso, which was carried out by a man who allegedly wrote that he was responding to the “Hispanic invasion of Texas,” and as the reason why gun violence in neighborhoods like Brownsville doesn’t receive the same response as other types of shootings. In her speech, Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez said legislation should be passed making it easier for the FBI to investigate and crack down on “white supremacist terrorism.” She also dedicated a portion of her speech to directly addressing people who “are falling into the grips of white supremacy that find themselves getting radicalized in a funnel of vitriol.”   “We will always be here and hold space for you to come back,” she said. “We will love you back. You are not too far gone.” In response to “Send them back” she said… “Come back. We will love you back.” Good for you, Alexandria. ………………………………………………………………………………………………………………… Please follow me on Twitter @durrati

NY Daily News Assails Trump’s “Empty Words”, “Limp Promises.”

One a day when the pathetic NY Times changes its front page headline from “Trump Urges Unity Vs, Racism” to “Assailing Hate But Not Guns” in response to the *Residents speech yesterday, and after massive social media backlash, the NY Daily News gets it right the first time: “Empty Words: Trump calls for ‘love,’ unity and bipartisanship to prevent more mass shootings, but keeps pushing NRA talking points President Trump pledged Monday to “act with urgent resolve” against the scourge of gun violence in the wake of mass shootings in Texas and Ohio, but offered few details on how he plans to do so and kept pushing gun lobby talking points. Blaming mental illness and video games but not the sweeping availability of military-grade weapons, Trump delivered the limp promises in a national address from the White House, as the death toll rose to 31 from the weekend massacres in El Paso, Texas and Dayton, Ohio. “These barbaric slaughters are an assault upon our communities, an attack upon our nation and a crime against all of humanity,” Trump said. “We vow to act with urgent resolve.” In the address, Trump also offered a forceful condemnation of “racism, bigotry and white supremacy,” as authorities said the suspect in Saturday’s El Paso shooting had likely posted a racist manifesto online decrying the “Hispanic invasion of Texas” before the senseless assault. But the president offered no acknowledgement that the suspected gunman’s alleged screed directly mirrored some of his own anti-immigrant rhetoric.” The rest of the article is pretty much straight forward reporting of the Orange Ogre’s slow third grader’s recitation of a speech that was written for him to tamp down criticism, and of which he believed not a word… excepting maybe the gun lobby talking points about video games and mental illness. But the Daily News stake out its ground in the opening paras above with the praise “limp promises” and the assertion that the El Paso gunman’s manifesto “directly mirrored some of his own anti-immigrant rhetoric.” Especially the limp promises bit. Macho maniac will hate that. We won’t be reading anything like that in the NY Times front page article. ………………………………………………………………………………………………………………… Please follow me on Twitter @durrati

John Lewis Asks for Courage He Once Displayed from a Political...

Congressman John Lewis called today for courage from the GOP, courage not nearly so impressive as he displayed at Edmund Pettis Bridge in Selma, Alabama in 1965, but courage they simply do not possess: Rancho Santa Fe Review “Lewis has dedicated his life to protecting human rights, securing civil liberties and building what he calls “The Beloved Community” in America. A child of sharecroppers in Alabama, as a young boy he was inspired by the activism surrounding the Montgomery Bus Boycott and the words of the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. At age 23, Lewis was an organizer of the historic March on Washington, the occasion of King Jr.’s “I Have a Dream” speech. In 1965 Lewis was beaten and almost killed by police on the notorious Edmund Pettis Bridge in Selma, Ala., near the beginning of the legendary march from Selma to Montgomery.” I admire your optimism,Congressman Lewis, but such courage will not be found in today’s GOP. ………………………………………………………………………………………………………………… Please follow me on Twitter @durrati

Trump, this Morning, Takes Gun Reform Hostage to Immigration Reform, Wants...

So, in the wake of the tragedies in El Paso and Dayton, Ohio @RealDonaldChump has decided to offer his backing for legislation mandating “strong” background checks (a proposition supported by vast majorities of American voters) as long as we “marry” that legislation with immigration reform. Immigration reform is sorely needed, but perhaps not in the fashion that Trump and the GOP would craft it. The fly in this ointment is, of course, the House has already passed legislation mandating stronger background checks and McTurtle is keeping it from coming to a vote in the Senate: “In February this year, the House of Representatives passed H.R. 8: Bipartisan Background Checks Act of 2019. This bill passed 240-190, with eight Republicans joining almost all Democrats to vote for the bill. This bill would prohibit most person-to-person firearm transfers unless a background check can be conducted, aiming to close a potential loophole allowing the transfer of firearms without a background check at gun shows or between individuals. The Senate has not taken any action on the bill since the House passed it.” If you want something “GREAT” to come from the senseless tragedies in El Paso and Dayton, Mr. *Resident, tell Yurtle to get off his shell and pass HR 240-190. Then we can talk about an immigration redo. Preferably without you and The GOP holding it hostage to common sense gun reform. ………………………………………………………………………………………………………………… Please follow me on Twitter @durrati
