Perhaps Trump lawyer Emmet Flood showing up to the closed-door meeting of the House Intelligence Committee a few days ago was the last straw for Congressman Adam Schiff who said that Flood, “had no business being there.” That wasn’t all he said. Washington Post:
“The only thing that makes this possible is a Congress that is complicit,” Rep. Adam B. Schiff (D-Calif.) said on ABC News’s “This Week,” naming several conservative leaders in the Republican Party and accusing “a weak” Speaker Paul D. Ryan (R-Wis.) of refusing to “stand up for the independence of the Justice Department.”
“As long as there’s a majority in Congress that is willing to do this president’s will and as long as we have a deeply unethical president, there’s only one remedy,” [throw the bums out] Schiff said.
Schiff’s words come at the end of a week that pitted the White House against the Justice Department and left Republicans divided over concerns about the role that retired American professor and FBI source Stefan A. Halper played in the Russia investigation. They are also a clear sign that as Trump takes to Twitter to peddle his misleading “spy” claims, top Democrats are eyeing the 2018 midterm elections as crucial not just for taking back the House of Representatives, but also for defending the federal law enforcement agencies from what Schiff called a “pattern” of attacks.
Schiff said that the purpose of the meeting which Devin Nunes convened this week was not congressional oversight but rather, “it was to help the president’s defense by getting information improperly from the Justice Department to feed to the president’s lawyers.”
This comes on the same day that Rudy Giuliani doubled down on Fox News about the FBI informant, Stephan A. Halper, and more importantly, Giuliani flip flopped on his previous statement that the Mueller probe was valid.
“Not anymore, I don’t,” he said. “I did when I came in, but now I see ‘Spygate.’ ”
Spygate is clearly the new mantra on Fox News, even though it’s been factually disproven, but then again the “journalists” at Fox News never let the facts get in the way of a good story. Schiff bottom lined it.
“Let’s spread a completely fallacious story and then let’s say that it needs to be investigated and give it a life of its own,” Schiff said.
That’s the formula for both Trump’s sycophants and the propaganda machine over at Fox News, in a nutshell.
Schiff is absolutely correct. We can’t lose sight of the fact that we have to take back the House this November, no ands, ifs, or buts. Keep your eyes on the prize and let’s make it happen!
