During the Russian probe hearings on Monday, former acting DOJ Attorney General Sally Yates batted off Trump-supporting Republicans like flies during their attempts to discredit, shame and bring her down. They failed, and once again, the GOP embarrassed the country in efforts to defend Donald Trump, our #1 national embarrassment, Predator in Chief, FakePresident and liar.
During one particular ridiculous, unrelated inquisition, Texas Senator Ted Cruz found himself messing with the wrong person, when he tried to corner Sally Yates with a section of the INA/Immigration and Nationality Act. Here is a CNN video excerpt followed by the video transcript.
Ted Cruz: By the expressed text of the statue it says, quote: ‘Whenever the President finds that the entry of any alien or class of aliens into the United States, would be detrimental to the interest of the United States, he may by proclamation, and for any period he shall deem necessary, suspend the entry of all aliens or class of aliens as immigrants or non immigrants, or impose on the entry of aliens, any restrictions he may deem appropriate.” Would you agree that, that is broad statutory authorization?
Sally Yates: I would, and I am familiar with that and I’m also familiar with an additional provision of the INA that says: “No person shall receive preference or be discriminated against in issuance of a visa because of race, nationality, or place of birth.” That, I believe was promulgated after the statute that you just quoted. And, that’s been part of the discussion with the courts in respect to the INA, is whether this more specific statute trumps the first one that you just described. But my concern was not an INA concern, here; it rather, was a constitutional concern.
Ted Cruz is still desperately trying to ‘find himself’ after the election — but then, it’s really dark up there in Trump’s ass.
Cruz is a smug — as he is mean and ignorant. To read more of the public Ted Cruz jabs, you can visit the Twitter hashtag #Ted Cruz.
Another smackdown Yates made was with the patriarchal, condescending Texas congressman John Cornyn. Here is 95 seconds of that exchange on video:
For those who couldn’t catch any of the proceedings live, and want to watch, below is the PBS YouTube video that includes the entire hearing. Given the reasonable time limits and question, it moves pretty fast.
Former Director of National Intelligence James Clapper held his own, as well. However, he did seem more irritated with some of the arrogant and baiting questions by Trump-supporting lawmakers. Clapper did get some zingers in there, specifically when a Republican asked him about “leaked unclassified information.” Clapper replied, that if a document is “unclassified” how can it be “leaked?” He garnered quite a big chuckle from the crowd.
How refreshing to witness that kind of nonpartisan integrity in the government again. Sadly, they both lost their jobs because of it. Many feel we’ll be hearing more from them again. I think today we witnessed what two potential presidential candidates look like. They are certainly qualified. Cheers to Sally Yates and James Clapper for making America proud.
