Vladimir Putin says ‘patriotically minded’ Russian hackers might have mangled the US election

Vladimir Putin still claims that the idea of Russian interference in the US election is fake, totally fake, just like Donald says. After all, nothing proves that there was no collusion more than the fact that Trump and Putin are in absolute agreement on this alternative fact.

But if, just if, maybe someone in Russia did a little, a very little, hacking. Well, they did it because they were simply good Russian patriots.

Shifting from his previous blanket denials, President Vladimir V. Putin of Russia said on Thursday that “patriotically minded” private Russian hackers could have been involved in cyberattacks last year to help the presidential campaign of Donald J. Trump.

These patriotic Russians can in no way be connected to the Russian government. It’s not as if the government trained, supported, and coordinated their activities. No, no. Hackers are beautiful butterflies. Distributing their glorious and totally not-the-government attacks wherever the wind may carry them.

Raising the possibility of attacks by what he portrayed as free-spirited Russian patriots, Mr. Putin said that hackers “are like artists” who choose their targets depending how they feel “when they wake up in the morning.”

Like artists, who spontaneously determine to work together in a large group to paint a lovely mural called “Let’s hack into the emails at the DNC, raid the accounts of private citizens who work with Democrats, share it all with Wikileaks, and at the same time use social media to dominate the news with fake stories of Trump’s brilliance and Hillary Clinton’s duplicity.” Sure. That’s a long title, but what are you going to do? Artists.

Russian patriots don’t like people who say bad things about Putin.

“If they are patriotically minded, they start making their contributions — which are right, from their point of view — to the fight against those who say bad things about Russia,” he added.

Putin’s comments do sound a little familiar …

His remarks echoed ones by Mr. Trump, who has dismissed accusations of Russian meddling and said that the person responsible for the attack on the Democratic National Committee “could be somebody sitting on their bed that weighs 400 pounds.”

But that has to be total coincidence. It’s not as if Trump and Putin …

Mr. Putin also put forward a theory that modern technology could easily be manipulated to create a false trail back to Russia.

President Donald Trump said it “could’ve been China” that was responsible for 2016 presidential election hacking. …

The president said that “it’s very hard” to say who is behind a hack without catching the hacker “in the act.”

exactly alike.

Russian President Vladimir Putin echoed President Donald Trump’s argument against the investigation into his country’s possible collusion with Trump’s campaign and associates, calling it Democrats’ excuse for losing the presidential election.
