In a complaint filed on Monday in federal court in Houston, three Texas churches claimed that their constitutional rights were being violated because they couldn’t apply for FEMA assistance to repair their churches.

They said they would like to apply for aid but it would be “futile” because FEMA’s public assistance program “categorically” excluded their claims, violating their constitutional right to freely exercise their religion. […]

“The principle is that governments can’t discriminate on the basis of religious status, and that is unapologetically what FEMA is doing here,” Daniel Blomberg, a lawyer for Becket, [non profit that represents churches] said in a phone interview.

Then Trump tweeted that the churches should get FEMA assistance and twitter went bonkers:

Then they should pay taxes

People like Joel Osteen have their multi-million dollar mansions completely tax exempt. Now Trump wants to give them more.

What happened to church and state? Churches should not receive FEMA dollars. Does Trump feel that way about Muslin churches getting money?
