The nation faces the greatest constitutional crises in over a century and its president, the leader of the free world, demands wise counsel from the greatest thinkers of our generation, thinkers like Sean Hannity. It appears Hannity’s counsel has been sought more often of late:

According to three sources with knowledge of their conversations, Trump has been in regular contact with Hannity over the phone in recent weeks, as the Fox News prime-time star and Trump ally has encouraged the prompt release of a controversial four-page memo crafted by Republicans on the House Intelligence Committee. Hannity has gone to the wall to push for the public release of the memo, which the intelligence panel and its chairman, Rep. Devin Nunes (R-CA), authorized this week in a party-line vote despite the classified information therein.

Sources say Hannity’s persistent advocacy reinforced Trump’s already growing determination to get that memo into the public realm—despite huge potential fallout within the law enforcement and intelligence arms of his own administration.

Of course Hannity persistently advocates for release of the memo. Hannity need not worry about the repercussions when defense attorneys across the nation file motions to dismiss actions based upon top secret methods integrated in the memo, and Hannity has never presented the Democratic perspective in any issue, never mind one that may bring down the presidency of his good friend.

The relationship does demonstrate just how far the Republicans have fallen, though. It used to be that Republicans would look sheepish in acknowledging the fare set out on Fox News, not unlike the CEO who isn’t particularly fond of the low-brow ad campaign for the product, but tolerates it because it moves product. Fox functioned as the PR firm for the Republican party. Now, however, under Trump, Fox appears to also function as Research and Development, House Counsel, and Board of Trustees, whichever role may be of need that day.

It would all be so darn funny if it were not so tragically offensive:

Hannity has worked himself into a frenzy this week, promising viewers “the biggest political scandal in American history.” On Wednesday evening, Hannity even hinted that he was privy to non-public information. “There’s so much more coming, I wish I could share it with you now,” he said.

Fox News host and former judge Jeanine Pirro (another part-time Trump adviser) has already determined culpability.

“I have been saying from the beginning, Sean, this guy McCabe needs to be taken out in cuffs,” she told Hannity on Tuesday evening.

The discerning reader will note that “Judge” Pirro’s husband spent 29 months in jail on tax fraud, while McCabe is a 22 year veteran of the FBI who has worked in their counter-terrorism division, investigated the Boston Bombing and served as first director of the director of the High-Value Detainee Interrogation Group.

Hannity has a radio show.
