Heather Heyer died doing what I am convinced many in this community would also do, confronting hate and bigotry should they show their ugly face in our hometown.
I am sure we will learn more about her as the days go by, what is known now is that she lived in Greene County, Virginia, which lies a few miles north of Charlottesville proper.
She was a 32 years old, a paralegal, and purported to be a member of the Industrial Workers of the World.
Her GoFundMe page offers this:
“Heather Heyer was murdered while protesting against hate. We are raising money to give to her family for anything that they may need. The family is aware of this and is in complete charge of when and where the funds will be released. She is a Greene County native and Graduated from William Monroe High School. Her mother (whom I will not name until she is ready) said “She died doing what was right. My heart is broken, but I am forever proud of her.”
She will truly be missed.”
And her Facebook page a few more clues of who she was….
Other than that, we don’t have a lot at this time.
Rest in Power, Heather, we will not forget.
