First of all, this is as close to an admission of what Trump said as Fox News is willing to publicize. Initially, Fox & Friends advised Trump to walk the comment back and then they moved to minimizing it as “just the way normal people talk.” That may be the case, but it used to be that a sitting president was expected to comport himself in a fashion commensurate with the dignity of the office, and not as if he was the average Joe just letting off steam. Then Tomi Lahren chimed in.
If they aren’t shithole countries, why don’t their citizens stay there? Let’s be honest. Call it like it is.

Push back was to the point.
According to US Census records, Tomi, every year 2900 people leave your home state of South Dakota to move to California and only 1300 move the other way.
By your own logic… you are from a shithole state. Should we keep you there?https://t.co/Fe4DeayqmB

So which shithole country did your grandparent come from? It must have been a real shithole because… you’re here now 🤷🏾♀️ https://t.co/hKZ5TPkfEn

Hey Tomi, Washington Post shithole bureau chief here. Love your foreign affairs reporting. Did you know there are 8.7 million Americans living overseas? Can’t imagine why they would leave home. https://t.co/Vazd6Ts3Pe

Countries don’t immigrate, people do. The quality of a person isn’t determined by their surroundings. The point is that he complained that we are getting black and brown immigrants, not white ones. That makes him a racist, and that’s a bad thing to be. Call it like it is. https://t.co/CD0811ISe4
