On the day drumpf brags about the 2nd quarter 2018 GDP growth rate of 4.1% (which Obama bested four times and Bill Clinton even more) David Hogg posted this tweet of an RFK speech putting the GDP itself in perspective:

“Even if we act to erase material poverty, there is another greater task, it is to confront the poverty of satisfaction – purpose and dignity – that afflicts us all.

Too much and for too long, we seemed to have surrendered personal excellence and community values in the mere accumulation of material things.  Our Gross National Product, now, is over $800 billion dollars a year, but that Gross National Product – if we judge the United States of America by that – that Gross National Product counts air pollution and cigarette advertising, and ambulances to clear our highways of carnage.

It counts special locks for our doors and the jails for the people who break them.  It counts the destruction of the redwood and the loss of our natural wonder in chaotic sprawl.

It counts napalm and counts nuclear warheads and armored cars for the police to fight the riots in our cities.  It counts Whitman’s rifle and Speck’s knife, and the television programs which glorify violence in order to sell toys to our children.

Yet the gross national product does not allow for the health of our children, the quality of their education or the joy of their play.  It does not include the beauty of our poetry or the strength of our marriages, the intelligence of our public debate or the integrity of our public officials.

It measures neither our wit nor our courage, neither our wisdom nor our learning, neither our compassion nor our devotion to our country, it measures everything in short, except that which makes life worthwhile.

And it can tell us everything about America except why we are proud that we are Americans.

If this is true here at home, so it is true elsewhere in world.”

By any measure, but most especially in the realms of morality and political rhetoric, our nation is immeasurably poorer with Donald Trump in public office.

Dam! David great research! I’m going to show lots of people this! Thank you. I know what he would say about the criminals in AIPAC and I doubt he would be very politically correct about it either!

Now that’s a leader – not a politician.

Reading this and remembering the love of country and satisfaction in jobs well done, so prevalent in the time of Bobby Kennedy, makes my heart hurt. We have no notion any more of where we are going, or why we are going there. Who would have thought Putin would be our “friend”, or that Republicans would spend their time and energy gaslighting the country instead of working for the common good, as they were elected to do? David Hogg, please stay on the public forum and give us a chance to vote for you some day. You and your generation… Read more »

Thank God there are a few people in this great land who recognize a fraud when they see one. Our habitually lying amoral clown we have as POTUS may fool some of the people some of the time but not all the people all the time. His day of reconning is coming.

What legacy will a man leave upon his death? Will he be remembered like Genghis Khan, the founder of the Mongol Empire which became the largest contiguous empire in the world. He left mounds of human skulls outside of the cities and villages he conquered as a warning to other towns in his path. Or will he be remembered like the great teacher Jesus who said “what does it profit a man if he gains the whole world but loses his soul?” How will the great leaders of today be remembered?

It is sad we have to keep looking in the past to find leaders who put our country, and it’s people, before anything else.
There are politicians out there who hold these same values, but keep falling behind those motivated more by greed and ego.
