My commute home was frustrating. I was treated to 3 different trucks with Trump bumper stickers. One was the expected oversized, jacked-up, gas guzzler, complete with a giant “Oregunian” window decal. If you haven’t seen one, they are disgusting. They are basically a giant picture if an assault weapon. What kind of insecure asshole celebrates assault weapons?

The stickers then reminded me of how the GOP stole the election by cheating. My drive home was filled with many unpleasant thoughts.

When I opened my screen door a hand written note fell out. I expected the worse. I am an outspoken liberal in a less than liberal part of town.  But instead I was brought to tears by the words of a man in my neighborhood named Ben Monroe. In case you can’t read it in the photo, I will quote it below….

My name is Ben and I live over on Centennial. I just wanted to let you know that when I feel low, scared, outnumbered, lonely or confused, I make it a point to drive down your street on the way home or to the store.

Your yard is beautiful and your signs are beautiful. That small thing, a yard sign, actually helps me feel less disempowered in this current climate.

Thank you Ben, your note just helped me feel less disempowered in this current climate. God bless you Ben Monroe.

Anyone who thinks a yard sign doesn’t matter is wrong. I will continue to proudly display my signs, and I will save your note on my refrigerator.

  1. Awesome, what a wonderful surprise to come home too. It doesn’t matter what the signs say as they must be pretty powerful.
