Donald Trump called into “Fox & Friends” this morning in an interview that was unbecoming of the President of the United States in all ways. Let’s break it down.

The interview began by Trump noting it is Melania’s birthday. When asked what he got the First Lady, Trump admitted, “Maybe I didn’t get her so much. I got her a beautiful card.” Sure you did, Donald. Sure you did.

The crew then pivoted to the news Dr. Ronny Jackson was withdrawing from consideration to lead the Department of Veterans Affairs. In summary, Trump complained his completely unqualified candidate was being treated unfairly, his life destroyed. Never mind the accusations came from people who work with Dr. Jackson day in and day out.

After several more minutes of rambling about how tough he is on Russia and how Senator Jon Tester needs to ‘pay a big price’ for discussing the accusations against Dr. Ronny Jackson, “Fox & Friends” host Steve Doocy asked about James Comey and this is the moment Donald Trump started to become unglued. Here is the Comey portion of the interview (transcript below), where even Steve Doocy has to throw his hands in the air. Watch/listen and then jump below for the second interview meltdown.

There is a lot to unpack there, no? Trump may decide to start intervening in the Department of Justice? That’s not how this works.

Moving on, the interview then pivoted to Michael Cohen, Donald Trump’s longtime employee and personal attorney. After denying he was at all involved in the Stormy Daniels case, Trump caused the jaws to drop on the set of Fox & Friends when he simultaneously distanced himself from the man who once claimed he’d take a bullet for Trump and then admitted Cohen did indeed represent him in the Stormy Daniels case, directly contradicting what he told reporters aboard Air Force One on April 5

Michael Cohen has businesses, okay? Okay? OKAY? The Fox crew could tell Donald Trump was digging into a larger hole. Host Ainsley Earhardt jumped in to cut off Donald Trump to move along because she had to ask him about the really important news—is Kanye great or the greatest for supporting Donald Trump on Twitter? Seriously.

The reaction to Trump’s about-face has been swift. Here’s the immediate reaction from Stormy Daniels’ attorney, Michael Avenatti.

Former federal prosecutor Renato Mariotti also weighed in to say Trump’s comments actually strengthened Comey’s defense.

  1. Trump has proven how racially divided America really is. Also trump is a racist idiot and his life’s goal is to become a forever dictator. Even the rich and radial will sucked into trumps sewer.

  2. CRAZY donald & D for DUMB trump is way more than a Idiot, racist or not. He’s a Dangerous Manic. When is Congress & the American people going to wake up & say “enough is enough” concerning all the insanity displayed the past year by that White House MADMAN.

  3. ???????? Yeah, go ask Putin how tough he’s been!!! He’s ignorant, disgraceful and a filthy stain on the United States!

  4. We knew he is a megalomaniac, we knew he is a lier, we knew he lies about everything, even what he lied about previously, now his obstructions have become treasonous, and the people he has chosen to be around him must constantly kiss his big orange ass, they too are committing treason. definition: disloyal to country-think back channel to/with Russia, removing all the safeguards to National Parks, drilling everywhere offshore, trying to eliminate Medicare and Medicade in order to pay for the tax give-away, his blunt and crude racial slurs. not the least making money off Americans for his golf and party expenses at del margo. He is the scourge of the world. He’s Hitler personified with a self interest blinders. What the hell? When are we gonna speak out and demand he be charged, tried, and hanged? He’s worse than Benedict Arnold.

  5. I have a niece with Aspergers Syndrome. POTUS reminds me of her, seizes on a particular idea and just does it to death, going on an on about it. Once and idea is fixed in her head it stays there until the next one comes along. Contradicts herself in the same speech. Has no concept of truth except how it relates to her and her feelings at the time. The social emotional behaviour of a person around 8-10. all about me, no-one else. Sound familiar? He utterly believes what he is saying, he did not collude with Russia because he has no idea of what collusion means. Taking assistance from Russia is what he has always done in business, why should politics be any difference. He does not understand treason. I pity the American people.
