Instead of being at the evidentiary hearing Friday in New York, Michael Cohen was meeting with cigar-smoking acquaintances outside The Regency, a NYC hotel. One person at the meeting was identified as Rotem Rosen. Mr. Rosen was the right hand man of billionaire Lev Leviev. Mr. Leviev is known as the “King of Diamonds” and is also a real estate tycoon billionaire who nurtured close ties to Vladimir Putin. Leviev was born in Uzbekistan and later immigrated to Israel in the 1970’s.
Even Jared Kushner is tangentially connected here,
According to an article published inThe Guardian on July 24, 2017, Donald Trump’s son-in-law, Jared Kushner sealed real estate deal worth $295m with Lev Avnerovich Leviev’s firm cited in money-laundering case. The ties between Trump family real estate deals and Russian money interests are attracting increasing interest from the justice department’s special counsel, Robert Muelleras he is investigating alleged Russia interference in the presidential election.
Cohen is obligated by Judge Kimba Wood to be in court Monday.
Stormy Daniel’s lawyer Michael Avenatti, who was in court Friday on behalf of his client, had this to say in a tweet (@MichaelAvenatti) today about Cohen’s absence from court Friday:
I am tired of saying this but there are no better words: You can’t make this stuff up! Instead of being in Fed Ct last Friday, Mr. Cohen met with his Russian associates.
It may not have been the best strategy to have been hanging out smoking cigars instead of being in court. It seems the judge in the Cohen case wasn’t pleased about his absence:
Looping back to a detail that I missed earlier.
Judge Wood seemed miffed that Michael Cohen was not in court.
"Your inability to answer these questions suggest to me that your client Mr. Cohen should be in court with you next time," she told Harrison.
