Donald Trump, master of the “element of surprise,” did surprise everyone Wednesday morning — with a chilling tweet challenging Russia to intercept incoming US missiles.

But Russia’s vow isn’t just that they plan to take out incoming missiles. It’s much, much worse.

“If there is a strike by the Americans, then we refer to the statements of President [Vladimir] Putin and the chief of staff that the missiles will be downed and even the sources from which the missiles were fired,” Russian Ambassador to Lebanon Alexander Zasypkin told Hezbollah’s al-Manar TV.

This came after a day in which a US missile destroyer, the USS Donald Cook, moved into position off the Syrian coast, where it was reported to be constantly harassed by low-flying Russian fighter jets.

The missiles that Trump ordered fired into a Syrian air base last year were Tomahawks. The Donald Cook carries Tomahawks, as well as Harpoon anti-ship missiles, and RIM-67 surface to air missiles.  Many Russian military bases in Syria are equipped with the S-400 anti-aircraft defense system, which may be capable of shooting down incoming Tomahawks. It doesn’t seem that Russia attempted to use the system last year. The 2017 strike left some military analysts suggesting that Russia’s system wasn’t as capable as Russia has claimed, which may make them more willing to deploy the system against another strike.

All of this generates nostalgia for the days when Donald Trump was making a different kind of tweet about actions in Syria.

Now Trump is broadcasting exactly what he intends to do — test whether we’re ready for the opening rounds of a war no one wants. It may be no coincidence that an earlier tweet from Trump on Wednesday morning expressed how glad he was to have John Bolton on hand.

To prove he didn’t collude with Russia in the election, Trump seems willing to out-do the Cold War. With a hot one.

Well, we all know what a liar this mental incompetent is, so, since he stated it, we know it’s all a ruse on his part. All he’ll do is keep on tweeting and nothing else. He talks bigly, but … when he talks, it’s always a lie.
