CNN is reporting that Jeffrey Beauregard Sessions has done as he was told and fired FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe.

McCabe had more recently been regularly taunted by President Donald Trump and besieged by accusations that he misled internal investigators at the Justice Department.
McCabe had been expected to retire this Sunday, on his 50th birthday, when he would have become eligible to receive early retirement benefits.
The timing could potentially reduce his expected pension (after 21 years on the job) and comes after months of Twitter taunts from Donald Trump.

In an interview with the New York Times, McCabe did not mince words about why he was fired.

In an interview, Mr. McCabe was blunt. “The idea that I was dishonest is just wrong,” he said, adding, “This is part of an effort to discredit me as a witness.”

In a statement released by his lawyers, Mr. McCabe said his firing was part of Mr. Trump’s “ongoing war on the F.B.I.” and Robert S. Mueller III, the special counsel.

“I am being singled out and treated this way because of the role I played, the actions I took and the events I witnessed in the aftermath of the firing of James Comey,” he said.

McCabe also revealed that he learned of his termination when he was forwarded a news release, and formally notified just a few minutes later.

The news comes just three hours after Fox News accidentally published (then deleted) a draft story covering the firing.
